<strong>Namibia</strong>n Marine Phosphate (Pty) Ltd proposes to mine an<br />
€stimat€d s-million tons ofphosphate rich sediments annually<br />
trom a deposit along lhe Namlbian coast {see rnap), using<br />
provon d€ep wat€r dredging techniques. The product will<br />
then be transferred to shore in Walvis Bay where th€<br />
phosphate eands wiu be eeparated from other marine<br />
sediments. The proposed p.oiecl lhus has two conponents,<br />
namety mafine and terrestriat (tand-based). separate<br />
<strong>Enviro</strong>nmenlal lmpact Assessments (ElAs) will be uodertaken<br />
lor oach of the two components.<br />
Jeremy Midgley & Associales, in associarbn wiih <strong>Enviro</strong><br />
<strong>Dynamics</strong> cc and a team of specialists, hav€ been appointed<br />
to conduct ihe EIA processes. The public participation<br />
process will now commence, first locusing on the marine<br />
compon€nt. A similar proc€ss, focusing on the t€rrestrial<br />
component, willfollow ata later stas€.<br />

F iday, 16 September ?011 in ord€r to participate throughout th€ EIA procosses. Registered<br />
stakeholders will r€ceive a Background lnformation Document, ongoing fe€dback throughout<br />
the project and willbe able to submit comm€nts on the process.<br />
