Nafi and MRXRlllatX Helena want ·to leave by July, so 'new Housemasters
wi],l be chosen soon. The f-inal decision is by Presidential appointmeJ.!.t
(that is ,Preside:r\t of MIT), upon recommendation from the Deans'
Office. While we have' no o.fficial "veto power", the Deans do want
our input. Firstly, they will take any suggestions we have for
faculty we think would make good housemasters.lf anyone has:any
ideas, do not approach the person yourself" as, we don't want to scare
anyone off. Instead;' ple'ase tell Mark, Radke. and he will suggest the
brought over hereto see the house, and Mark has 'asked Sandy to head
a small, unofficial committee which lQRX wilt be available to meet
these people. In short, the selection process ts' not under our
control by any means, but we: are not being'completely bypassed.
9) Comm.ons Proposal
,Some form of Mandatory Commons' 'next year now seems inevitable.
Commons Com.rnitt.ee want through ,the new plan, andcame up with
some major points to be discussed by the House'~We are going to
draft a letter with. our ma'jor :objections to the plan.:$traw
polls determined that the following items be included in:: the
letter:'..',
(1) Late opening of dining hall. We ",jould like torem8'.in open
our activities.
' '.
(.2) lnJeekend openin.g. We are vehemently. opposed to haviinf';' the
dining hall open on weekends. This would totally screw our parties
and other weekend activities. ' .'
(3) ·Carpetin..g the dining hall. We DO NOT want carpetinG'in the
dinin.r-;hall. It would be a bitch to clean, and would again
screw a. lot of· the activitmes we have in the dining hall~
(4) Increasedse:atingcapacity. lNe oppose expansion of sea~ing
into the balcony. or replacement of the round tables. The
balcony is a place for socializing; it should remain so. As for
the round tables, they are important to the "social interaction"
that Mandatory Commons
is supposed to promote.
(5) Special diets. Wewant·provisions·made for Kosher or Vep.:etarHm
FAILS 9-2J. We'll try again in the fall.
6) Discussion of the responsibilities of BomCom and Client Team
It was stressed that all House· Committees are responsible to the
House, and should not bypass the House to deal directly with the
Institute. The question of the role of ComCom was also discussed-
specifically, how active a role should ComCom take in the
(more on back•••••••••••••• )

implementation of L~aildatory Commons. The Dining Advisory Board
currently being est~blished is supposed to take this role, but
on an Institute-wida~level. Consensus seemed to be that Comcom
should be involved, though to what extent is unclear. Some
people calleq. fo~.. ~ction to convince UIT of our concern•. l;.loosee
"I believe we should all eat commons, then sit outside their
offices and fart."
7) ConsiEleration of the LaundBY Fund and the Laundryroorn
We set up the Wash~r-D~yer fund so that we could replace our
machines in case pf a disaster. However we recently found out
that we are insured (by hIlT) for almost all disasters imaginable
(short of e;.o.m~Q.n~. stealing all our machines). Thus it seems pointless
to keep ~4500 tied up in the Laundry Fund. ~OTION by Charlie
Dale to lower the limit for the Laundry Fund to -/)2500 (leaving
the $3200 which is currently in the FUnd there for now until it
gets spent down to $2.5'00) PASSES 25-1. Croc has researched possibilitiesfor
new machines. The only place to put more than 4
washers' and 4 dryers is the TV Room. The current room cannot
hand~e more machines. liJe might be able to add one or two machines
"This cannot be tolerated!" cried the President.
HOlViOSEXUALITY UNOOY'.L.!;RED IN l~l. 1. T. DORlliiITORY
Cambridge, Oct. 11 (AP) -- t.IT President Paul Gray announced
today that homosexuality of "vast proportions" had been discovered
in Baker House, an undergraduate coed dormitory. IlIore shocking
was the news that this perverse behavior had penetrated into the
highest levels of student government. Indeed Baker House seems
to have become a haven for homosexuals of both sexes on the LIT
campus. The few heterosexuals that remain feel oppressed by the
gay majority. ~ays House Secretary, John Goreel "These faggots
have been carrying on their orgies far too long. They call them
'Execcon Meetings· and make me sit in the corner and take notes.
Well they can take their minutes and shove it--I'm sick of the
whole thing and I'm gonna expose the lot of them."
Goree went on to implicate Dorm President ~~rk Radka and
Social Chairman Brian Feldman as ringleaders of the homosexual
conspiracy. Commented Radkal "I don't underthtand what all the
futh i t11 about. It'th all tho thillJri" Feldman denied that he
was planning a .$.5000 l'iazola Party in place of the dorm's D traditional
Halloween Par;jy". "1'1e don't lUee gays here," said l"eldman
as he and Radl'l:a disappeared into Radka' s room to "discuss the party."
Dorm Athletic Chairman Mike Colucci was also mentioned in
connection with certain ~x perversities involving hockey sticks.
The Fire I,iarshall, Jeffrey R, Solof. was reported to have performed
similar acts with fire extinguishers. Treasures Bill Flarsheim
supposedly held a "waterbed-filling party" ~ recently for
all his male friends; no water was used. The gays have also taken
a motto -- "BOASLAP" -- which stands for "Boy our asses smell like
apple piel"
Cambridge Police are planning a crackdown on the next monthly
dorm-wide orgy. According to Goree: "They get 50 or so people
in the. dining hall. rtadka starts playing with his !gavel'--as he
calls it--and it degenerates from there. They call it a
Pre-frosh c~~ get free meals on Commons.
Nark - Anyone interested in being Country Kitchen Chairman (see item
4 below) see me or Jeff.
AGENDA
1) Consideration of raising thevlashcon salary
Croc (alias Jim Askey, our Washcom Chairman) wanted a raise (note:
not a "rise"). He was getting $1.5/week, wanted $20. MOTION by
Nancy to raise Hashcom salary to $19.9.5!week. The President
heard $20/week. Nancy complains I . "You're showing them how
fuclcing corrupt we are!" The Secretary (which is me) decides to
gowith.the President. ffIoj;ion stands at ¥I $@O/week. Botion
PASSES 42-2. '.
2) Consideration of bUdgetting $$ for a House safe
Lir. Bill Flarsheim and Lir. James Ask4.ss"'ey have looked into safes
and xx have found a "good,. sturdy" one for about 432.50. Bill
now keeps a "fair amount", of $$ in his room and 'would lilt:e to
make i tmore secure. LlOTION by Bill to budget,,:p250 for a House
safe line item from unbudgetted funds PASSES J.5-6. The six
people who voted against it probably wro~t to steal the money.
J) Consideration of bUdgetting $$ for a House soda machine
Sue Berg and (once again) Croc have looked in to the ~xmxii
possibility of getting a soda machine for the House. The machines
now in the basement belong to Coke. and the $$ from them is split
betvleen Coke and LIlT, i.IT's money going to Food Service and an
Employee benefit fund. With a House machine, the House would
receive the profit from the machine.
A used machine would cost about $1000 and comld be placed
dovmstairs with the other machines. ,~'e can stoch: anything we
want except Coke products since this would compete with MIT's
machines. Croc has volunteered to do maintenance. Sue Berg
calculated that even charging lower prices (JO¢/cro~) the machine
would be paid off in about a ~aaxx with the profit. MOTION by
Jeff to take $1000 from unbudgetted funds to increase the Snatch
Bar reserve, and that the Jnack Bar I,iIanager be authorized to buy
a soda machine (lfin-cans-type") and be responsible for repair
and stocking of said machine PASSES J8-12
AGEND.l
1) Ratification of recently-elected grease
1'f~OTION by C. T. "Timothy" ("Status") Kuo to ratify the election of
the Frosh Rep, GA Re~s, and Floor Social Chairman PASSES 37-3,
followed by a (brief) acceptance speech by the Prep, Vivian Wang.
2) Consideration of (re)budgetting for amtx end-oi-year study break
Hampton (:~enior tutor) tool{ the stand to explain that at a ft:tUla
Tutors' Meeting about a month ago, the tutors suggested having
several housewide study breaks during finals week. Unfortunately,
they have no $$~ MOTION by Jeff Kletsky to take $80 from unbUdgetted
funds + $100 from the Country Kitchen line item for
these study breaks (totalling $180 in a new "END-OF-Year ,;)tudy
Breaks" line item) PASSES 37-0. They will be held on the Sunday,
Lionday, and Tuesday of Finals )(WBkx Week.
3) Discussion of House Soda Machine
Although the last House neeting authorized the 3nack Bar Nanager
to buy a soda machine, the question of what to do with income from
it was not resolved. Among the alternatives were to consider it
a ~XK part of ~nack Bar income, or to treat it like income from
washers and dryers (going into bUdgettable funds directly). Also
the Snack Bar debt was raised to $3000 fD~ the purchase of the
machine. MOTION by Jeff that income from the soda machine be
considered part of ~nack Bar income. ~NE Dies for lack of
second amidst much confusion~ MOTION by Bill that the ~Back Bar
Manager be instructed to use the income from the machine to lower
the 3nack Bar debt to $2000, and afterwards that income from the
machine will be considered part of Snack Bar income PASSES 40-2.
~Jhat this means is that we will. let the machine "pay itself off"
and then treat it as ro~ extension of the Snack Bar.
4) Discussion of the ~tate of the Dorm
President Radka expressed a concern that "dorm spirit" seems to
be declining lately. Among tho commentsl "House circuits are
way down", "Nobody leaves their doors open anymore", "There's
nothing new to do". Lark suggested that perhaps with our newfound
wealth, people feel that money cures everything and are reluctro~t
to put work into anything. Some felt that the dDrm is
splitting into smaller cliques. As to how to km~ get more people
involved, some felt that Floor 30cial Chairmen could be more active.
Publicity also seems to be a problem. Frank Ditaranto volunteered
to place memo boards in all the toilet stalls ant write
notices on dorm activities. ll~rk appointed him Bathroom Grafitti
Chairman. To sum it up, perhaps everyone ~ should try to contribute
a little more -- it won't kill you.
hleeting adjourned at 10:05pm yours truly: ~~

people could follow residents in, or enter thru other doors if
they were unlocked. The problem of residents who forgot their key
AGENDA
1) Consideration of raising the~jashcon salary
Croc (alias Jim Askey, our Washcom Chairmro~) wanted a raise (note:
not a "rise")•. He was getting $l5,/week, wanted $20. MOTION by
Nro~cy to. raise ~'Jashcom salary to $19.95!week. The President
heard $20/week. Nancy complains: ."You're showing them how
fucking corrupt we are 1" The Secretary (w'hich is me) decides to
gowith.the President. IvIo.tion stands at ~I $iO/week. Botion
PASSES 42-2. .
2) Consideration of bUdgetting $$ for a House safe
hr. Bill Flarsheim and l::ir. James Ask4.ss--ey have looked into safes
and xx have found a "good,. sturdy" ohe for about $250. Bill
now keeps a "fair amount"· of $$ in his room and'would like to
make it more secure. nOTION by Bill to budget.,:p250 for a House
safe line item from unbudgetted funds PASSES J5-6'. The six
people who voted against it probably wro~t to steal the money.
J) Consideration of budgetting $$ for a aouse soda machine
Sue Berg and (once again) Croe have looh:ed in to the lOuai »3cn
possibility of getting a soda machine for the House. The machines
now in the basement belong to Coke, and the $$ from them is split
betvleen Coke and HIT, LIT·s money going to Food Service and an
Employee benafit fund. With a House machine, the House would
receive the profit from the machine.
A used machine would cost about $1000 and comld be placed
dovmstairs with the other machines. ,'~'e can stock anything we
wro~t except Coke products since this would compete with NIT's
machines. Croc has volunteered to do maintenance. Sue Berg
calculated that even charging lower prices (JO¢/can) the machine
would be paid off in about a ~~ with the profit. MOTION by
Jeff to take $1000 from unbudgetted funds to increase the Snatch
Bar reserve, and that the 3nack Bar IJlanager be authorized to buy
a soda machine (" in-cans-type") ro~d be responsible for repair
and stocking of said machine PASSES J8-12
l'iOTION by Frro1k ("ULOC". "Dirtbag", "Freshman") Bitaranto to adopt
.5) Discussion of the utilization of House space.
'M11;:e Colucci took. theflaor to explain the.basicproblem: Vie
have ideas and:$:$, but.no space to put anything new. The exping-pong
area has furniture filling it. The TV room is a potential
source of space if we want to scrap the TV. Other closets
and rooms are scatter.edaround the House but ,most are beingu used
or aretQo small for anything worthwhile. hr. Colucci asked for
suggestions froIn .the aUdienc·e. He was met largely with,s.ilence
and apathy. No motions made; the problem remains. If anyone
