Dear Friends of Catholic Charities, Did you ever wonder what inspires people to step forward and lend a helping hand, to volunteer or give their financial support to an organization? What moves them to act in such a caring manner? I believe they are responding to Jesus’ call to serve by looking upon others as true sisters and brothers by loving as our God loves. Dolan Archbishop of Milwaukee President Catholic Charities’ Board of Trustees Cal l e d to S e r v e In his Encyclical Letter, Deus Caritas Est (God is Love), Pope Benedict XVI speaks to us all as members of the universal Church, and as men and women of good will. “Love of neighbor, grounded in the love of God, is first and foremost a responsibility for each individual of the faithful. Only my readiness to encounter my neighbor and to show him love makes me sensitive to God as well. Only if I serve my neighbor can my eyes be opened to what God does for me and how much he loves me.” How clearly defined �e Call to Serve is! We can better grasp God’s unconditional and unwavering love for us when we free ourselves to respond lovingly to our neighbors. I’m talking about neighbors across town or in a different county, neighbors of a different faith or nationality, neighbors who are poor, forgotten or ignored. Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Milwaukee reaches out to neighbors in need and the pages of this <strong>Annual</strong> <strong>Report</strong> will share how this important mission is accomplished. On behalf of Catholic Charities’ staff and Board of Trustees, I extend heartfelt thanks to the thousands of individuals, parishes, organizations, foundations and corporations that support the vital work of this agency. May the love of our Savior be ever-present in your life and may you continue to answer �e Call to Serve through prayer and financial support of Catholic Charities.
