Collects 80 of Rops’ most outlandish and 

confrontational works. 

The first flowering of Satanism in erotic art 

came with the Belgian artist Felicien Rops, who 

commingled elements of death, prostitution 

and the Satanic in his work, particularly in 

his 5-picture series, Les Sataniques (1882). Rops’ 

images, The Sacrifice and Calvary, are explicit 

representations of Black Mass and Satanism, 

and still retain their original power to disturb. 

Rops’ illustrations in oil, etchings, pencil work, 

pastels, and watercolors were originally reproduced 

in editions of Paul Verlaine, Joséphin Péladan, 

and Jules Barbey d’Aurevilly’s Les Diaboliques.

discount. Orders on 1 to 4 books 

must be prepaid. Reorders will be 

given the same discount as the

RETURN POLICY 

No permission is required for 

returns on trade titles within one 

year of purchase (include original 

invoice number and date 

purchased); after one year, 

permission is required. All returns 

must ship directly to the 

warehouse. All maps are strictly 

nonreturnable.
