The Leadville Trail 100 races are among the most<br />
challenging in the country, featuring steep climbs and<br />
serious descents at elevations in excess of 12,000 feet.<br />
Events include a trail marathon, heavy half marathon,<br />
50-mile and 100-mile mountain bike and running<br />
races, a 10K run and training camps. These events, held<br />
from June – August, attract elite athletes from around<br />
the world.<br />

This three-day celebration of Leadville’s mining<br />
heritage, held the first full weekend in August, is<br />
jam-packed with live music and entertainment, a<br />
parade, mining competitions, motorcycle games,<br />
vendor fair, rod and gun show, kids’ games and 1880s<br />
costume contests. The International Leadville Pack<br />
Burro Races, the second leg of the Pack Burro Triple<br />
Crown, top off this one-of-a-kind Colorado weekend<br />
on Sunday.<br />

Part Wild West and part extreme sports, ski<br />
joring—each horse-and-rider team pulling a skier down<br />
a snow-packed road, over jumps, while spearing rings in<br />
a timed competition—has been an annual event in<br />
Leadville since 1949. Held the first full weekend in<br />
March, you can also watch or participate in Nordic and<br />
winter mountain bike races, and a paintball biathlon.<br />
