Here is how <strong>the</strong>se choices connect toge<strong>the</strong>r.<br />
Quito<br />
Day 1 You are met on <strong>the</strong> arrival of your international flight at<br />
Quito airport <strong>and</strong> are transferred to a 3* hotel (or your chosen<br />
upgrade), your base for 2 nights.<br />
Day 2 BL In <strong>the</strong> morning your private English-speaking guide will<br />
meet you at your hotel <strong>and</strong> take you on a walking tour of <strong>the</strong> Old<br />
City.<br />
After lunch, visit <strong>the</strong> Equator at ei<strong>the</strong>r <strong>the</strong> unconventional Inti-Ñan<br />
museum or <strong>the</strong> Mitad del Mundo complex.<br />
Alternatively you could take <strong>the</strong> cable car up Pichincha volcano,<br />
which would be best done in <strong>the</strong> morning, with your time in <strong>the</strong><br />
Old City moved to <strong>the</strong> afternoon.<br />
Amazon<br />
Day 3 BLD You are collected from your hotel for <strong>the</strong> journey to <strong>the</strong><br />
Amazon, chosen from <strong>the</strong> examples on page 17.<br />
Usually this involves an early start, a short flight <strong>and</strong> a journey by<br />
boat at <strong>the</strong> o<strong>the</strong>r end to reach your destination in <strong>the</strong> rainforest.<br />
A 3 night stay is <strong>the</strong> norm for a visit to a l<strong>and</strong>-based lodge, <strong>and</strong> is<br />
assumed here.<br />
Days 4-5 BLD In <strong>the</strong> Amazon.<br />
Andes<br />
Day 6 Returning to Quito, you are met at <strong>the</strong> airport <strong>and</strong> driven to<br />
your choice of three destinations in <strong>the</strong> Andes, for a two night stay.<br />
Your time is free in each location to relax at <strong>the</strong> hotel or for optional<br />
excursions which can be arranged by you locally at extra cost.<br />
Otavalo B (markets <strong>and</strong> craft villages) Stay at ei<strong>the</strong>r Hacienda<br />
Pinsaqui <strong>and</strong> Hacienda Cusín (described on p13). Both are<br />
convenient for visits to Otavalo <strong>and</strong> its neighbouring villages.<br />
Cotopaxi BLD Stay at El Porvenir (p13), a beautifully located small<br />
hacienda style lodge situated on <strong>the</strong> edge of Cotopaxi national<br />
park, offering hiking, biking <strong>and</strong> riding.<br />
Mindo (Andean cloud forests) BLD Stay in your choice of cloud<br />
forest lodge in <strong>the</strong> Mindo area (see p24).<br />
Day 7 Free at your hacienda or lodge. Each has options for things<br />
to do, some at extra cost.<br />
Day 8 Morning free. Afternoon transfer back to Quito. Overnight at<br />
<strong>the</strong> same hotel as Day 1.<br />
Galápagos<br />
Day 9 BLD Transfer to <strong>the</strong> airport at Quito for a flight to <strong>the</strong><br />
Galápagos, where you join your chosen boat for a voyage around<br />
<strong>the</strong> isl<strong>and</strong>s.<br />
Day 10 onwards BLD Galápagos cruise.<br />
Departure<br />
Final day of cruise Disembark from your boat in time for a<br />
midday flight to Guayaquil, which is timed to connect with<br />
international overnight flights to Europe.<br />

A Taste of <strong>Ecuador</strong><br />
A great value short tour for solo travellers <strong>and</strong><br />
those combining a short visit to <strong>the</strong> mainl<strong>and</strong><br />
with a Galápagos cruise.<br />
Quito<br />
Day 1 You will be met on arrival at Quito airport <strong>and</strong> transferred to<br />
a 3* hotel well located in <strong>the</strong> Mariscal section of town. This will be<br />
your base for all four nights.<br />
Cotopaxi National Park<br />
Day 2 BL This morning you are driven along <strong>the</strong> first section of <strong>the</strong><br />
Avenue of <strong>the</strong> Volcanoes <strong>and</strong> into Cotopaxi National Park. Driving<br />
into <strong>the</strong> park area you pass below snow-capped Cotopaxi volcano,<br />
with great views all around. There are great opportunities for<br />
photographs. Lunch is included at a local restaurant.<br />
In <strong>the</strong> afternoon you continue southwards rejoining <strong>the</strong> Avenue of<br />
<strong>the</strong> Volcanoes to visit <strong>the</strong> colourful Thursday market at Saquisilí,<br />
<strong>and</strong> return to Quito.<br />
Quito<br />
Day 3 B A guided city tour of <strong>the</strong> historic quarter of Quito is<br />
arranged for you today.<br />
The shared tour includes a visit to <strong>the</strong> Parliament building, St<br />
Augustine Convent, Independence Plaza bordered by <strong>the</strong> Ca<strong>the</strong>dral,<br />
Presidential Palace, Municipal Building <strong>and</strong> <strong>the</strong> Archbishop’s Palace<br />
<strong>and</strong> a visit to <strong>the</strong> Church of San Francisco which has <strong>the</strong> painting of<br />
<strong>the</strong> winged Virgin of Quito at its main altar.<br />
You are <strong>the</strong>n driven out of <strong>the</strong> city to visit <strong>the</strong> Equator monument.<br />
The afternoon is free in Quito, perhaps to visit museums or, if <strong>the</strong><br />
wea<strong>the</strong>r is fine, to ride <strong>the</strong> cable car to <strong>the</strong> top of Pichincha.<br />
Otavalo Market<br />
Day 4 BL An early start to join a shared full day tour. You are driven<br />
through <strong>the</strong> countryside to Otavalo.<br />
You will have plenty of time to enjoy <strong>the</strong> lively <strong>and</strong> colourful<br />
markets, with a wide choice of textiles, h<strong>and</strong>icrafts <strong>and</strong> jewellery.<br />
Look out for locals dressed in blue ponchos, white trousers <strong>and</strong><br />
long plaited hair.<br />
Lunch is included ei<strong>the</strong>r at a restaurant beside San Pablo lake or a<br />
local hacienda.<br />
Day 5 B This morning you are collected from your hotel <strong>and</strong> driven<br />
to Quito airport for your onward connection: perhaps a flight to <strong>the</strong><br />
jungle, to <strong>the</strong> Galápagos or home.<br />
Excursions are shared with o<strong>the</strong>r participants who<br />
may be of any nationality.<br />
