75 % of Danish Agro Group’s earnings now come from
international activities and outside traditional agribusiness
in Denmark
In year 2000, Danish Agro which back then was a regional agribusiness with a
turnover of EUR 123 million, realised 95 % of its earnings from traditional
agribusiness in Denmark. In 2012 this number is only 25 % and the company
has grown into an international business with own production, store and office
facilities in 11 countries.
Besides being a way of increasing earnings, this development has also been
necessary in order to counter the structural development in farming and to
continue being a competitive business partner for farmers.
- The development has been considerable in Danish Agro Group. It has been
necessary to not only be an active part of the consolidation in Danish
agribusiness sector, but also to develop the business outside of Denmark. In
this pressured line of business our increased size makes us capable of cutting
costs, utilize synergies, increase distribution power and hereby make us more
interesting towards suppliers, says Christian Junker, Group CEO of Danish
Agro, and continues:
- Our increased earning potential from abroad and through side activities
makes the need for high profits on traditional agribusiness activities in
Denmark less important, which is to the benefit of farmers and our members.

Inter-company sales have been excluded in the net turnover
Danish Agro Group today consists of five business units:
• Agribusiness Denmark covers our agribusiness activities in Denmark
• Agribusiness International consists of our agribusiness activities in
Sweden, Finland, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland and the Czech
Republic.
• Agribusiness Support Companies covers our subsidiary companies such
as our seed refinement company Nordic Seed A/S, rapeseed mill
Scanola A/S, procurement through DLA Agro, etc.
• Agribusiness Special Feed Activities consist of our premix and vitamin
activities in the Vilomix Group.
• Food Activities covers our food business in Hedegaard Foods and
The development in the agribusiness sector is a mirror on the development in
Danish farming where farms becomes fewer and bigger and are capable of doing
more and more themselves. As a business sector we have quickly had to adjust to
new market terms, and the development of Danish Agro is a good example of
how dynamic this development is.
