What is the <strong>Youth</strong> Services <strong>Scholarship</strong>?<br />

Each year, <strong>Henry</strong> <strong>Street</strong> <strong>Settlement</strong> (HSS) awards scholarships to high school seniors and college<br />

students who participated in any HSS program for one year or more during high school. Award<br />

money can be used for tuition, books and other school-related expenses. <strong>Scholarship</strong>s range from<br />

$500 to $2,000.<br />

Who is eligible to apply for the scholarship?<br />

The <strong>Henry</strong> <strong>Street</strong> <strong>Settlement</strong> <strong>Youth</strong> Services <strong>Scholarship</strong> is awarded to candidates who:<br />

*Will be enrolled in college during the 2008-2009 academic year<br />

*Participated in at least one HSS program for one academic year during high school<br />

*Have maintained a relationship with HSS<br />

*Are active participants in their high school, college or local community<br />

*Demonstrate financial need<br />

*Maintain a GPA of 2.5 (C+ average) or higher<br />

What documents will I need to apply?<br />

*<strong>Scholarship</strong> application with student evaluation form completed (available at<br />

www.henrystreet.org)<br />

*Copy of High School transcript for HS grads OR college transcript for college students<br />

with GPA (unofficial copy is fine)<br />

*FAFSA Student Aid Report (SAR) with your Expected Family Contribution (EFC)<br />

(available online at www.fafsa.ed.gov)<br />

*Copy of financial aid award letter from intended college (HS grads) OR Copy of your<br />

tuition bill (college students), showing financial aid received from the college<br />

Submit all of the above documents to Ritu Sen, Division of <strong>Youth</strong> Services, 301 <strong>Henry</strong> <strong>Street</strong>,<br />

New York, NY 10002.<br />

How do I apply for the scholarship?<br />

*Get an application from HSS’s <strong>Youth</strong> Services Division, 301 <strong>Henry</strong> <strong>Street</strong> or online at<br />

www.henrystreet.org<br />

*Submit the application and the supporting documents listed in the application to the<br />

<strong>Youth</strong> Services Division 301 <strong>Henry</strong> <strong>Street</strong> by April 30, 2008 at 6 p.m.<br />

How will awards be distributed?<br />

*All scholarship recipients must attend the awards ceremony on May 29, 2008 and the<br />

Homecoming Dinner in January 2009.<br />

*Award money will be distributed to recipients in two equal installments.<br />

*<strong>Scholarship</strong> winners must submit two progress letters (one at the end of each semester).<br />

*<strong>Scholarship</strong>s may be renewed each year the student attends college.<br />
