Course Description:<br />

<strong>Media</strong> Arts will introduce you to the <strong>Media</strong> industry. At the end of this course you will<br />

understand and demonstrate your ability to <strong>Film</strong>, Direct, Set up productions, storyboard,<br />

write, analyze media, make TV shows, PSA’s, sports productions and more. As part of<br />

our class you will have the privilege to work as professionals on live events. You will get<br />

to work with live production crews as camera operators, directors, techs, and other jobs.<br />

Plus you will get to learn the latest Final Cut Studio.<br />

Unit Topics:<br />

- Career Essentials (Resume, Cover letter, Interviews)<br />

- <strong>Media</strong> and Entertainment (News, updates, and changes)<br />

- Pre Production (Developing, Scripting, Storyboarding)<br />

- Production (<strong>Film</strong>ing, Acting, Lighting, Directing, Studio/Live Production)<br />

- Post Production (Editing, Graphics, DVD creation, Distribution)<br />

Grading Policy:<br />

Grades for the class will be based on a “Point System.” Each assignment will be given a certain<br />

number of points to be earned. Prior to grading period, all course assignments will be totaled; it<br />

will be compared to the number of point’s possible and calculated on the following percentages:<br />

90-100% = A<br />

80-89% = B<br />

70-79% = C<br />

60-69% = D<br />

0-59% = F<br />

<strong>Film</strong>/TV/Editing/Camera/Script/Storyboard/Resume/Cover Letter/Interview<br />

Projects: 40% of your grade.<br />

Movie Screening: 15%<br />

When watching moves look beyond the screen, analyze the camera work, lighting, script,<br />

acting, and effect. Quizzes, notes, and other assignments follow screenings.<br />

Attendance: 5%<br />

Regular attendance is MANDATORY.<br />

Production Points: 30% of your grade


Keep a log of all productions you work on<br />

• Working on Live productions 35-90 points<br />

• 5 page movie script 20-50 points<br />

• Editing school projects 30-60 points<br />

• Creating a short film 20-100 points<br />

• Other ways to get production points can be discussed<br />

Work Habits:<br />

Be creative in everything you do.<br />

Tardy Policy:<br />

Students are to be seated in the class when the bell rings or else they are tardy<br />

Class Room Rules:<br />

Because of the area and equipment in the studio, all students will be required to respect all safety<br />

issues.<br />

Attend regularly, arrive on time and ready to learn.<br />

No eating in the class<br />

Maintain a positive attitude with other classmates and instructor<br />

Complete all work<br />

Participate in class discussions and activities.<br />

Unitize equipments safely, No misuse of equipment in any manner.<br />

All students will follow the safety rules in the studio.<br />
