Course Description:
Media Arts will introduce you to the Media industry. At the end of this course you will
understand and demonstrate your ability to Film, Direct, Set up productions, storyboard,
write, analyze media, make TV shows, PSA’s, sports productions and more. As part of
our class you will have the privilege to work as professionals on live events. You will get
to work with live production crews as camera operators, directors, techs, and other jobs.
Plus you will get to learn the latest Final Cut Studio.
Unit Topics:
- Career Essentials (Resume, Cover letter, Interviews)
- Media and Entertainment (News, updates, and changes)
- Pre Production (Developing, Scripting, Storyboarding)
- Production (Filming, Acting, Lighting, Directing, Studio/Live Production)
- Post Production (Editing, Graphics, DVD creation, Distribution)
Grading Policy:
Grades for the class will be based on a “Point System.” Each assignment will be given a certain
number of points to be earned. Prior to grading period, all course assignments will be totaled; it
will be compared to the number of point’s possible and calculated on the following percentages:
90-100% = A
80-89% = B
70-79% = C
60-69% = D
0-59% = F
Film/TV/Editing/Camera/Script/Storyboard/Resume/Cover Letter/Interview
Projects: 40% of your grade.
Movie Screening: 15%
When watching moves look beyond the screen, analyze the camera work, lighting, script,
acting, and effect. Quizzes, notes, and other assignments follow screenings.
Attendance: 5%
Regular attendance is MANDATORY.
Production Points: 30% of your grade

Keep a log of all productions you work on
• Working on Live productions 35-90 points
• 5 page movie script 20-50 points
• Editing school projects 30-60 points
• Creating a short film 20-100 points
• Other ways to get production points can be discussed
Work Habits:
Be creative in everything you do.
Tardy Policy:
Students are to be seated in the class when the bell rings or else they are tardy
Class Room Rules:
Because of the area and equipment in the studio, all students will be required to respect all safety
issues.
Attend regularly, arrive on time and ready to learn.
No eating in the class
Maintain a positive attitude with other classmates and instructor
Complete all work
Participate in class discussions and activities.
Unitize equipments safely, No misuse of equipment in any manner.
All students will follow the safety rules in the studio.
