Dear Friend of Father Lenny,
Fall 2012
My name is Father Fernando Negro, Sch.P and I am the Provincial Superior for the
Piarist Fathers’ Province of the United States and Puerto Rico. This is just a short letter to
update you on some of the wonderful things, which the Piarist Fathers have been able to
accomplish, thanks to the generosity of the friends of Father Leonard Gendernalik, Sch.P.
The purpose of the Father Leonard Gendernalik Scholarship Fund is to provide assistance for
the formation and education of our seminarians, who will then go on to active ministry and help
us to fulfill our mission. As you may already know, our mission is to follow Christ and to serve
the Church in the modern world by promoting our unique way of life and administering
effectively to the educational needs of children and youth, especially the poor. We currently
have twenty-nine seminarians. (The average cost for the education of one seminarian is $13,500
per year.) Once they have completed their studies and are ordained, they will work in one of the
following nine schools or parishes in our Province:

Coto Laurel (Ponce), PR: Colegio Ponceno
Devon, PA: Devon Preparatory School
Fort Lauderdale, FL: Cardinal Gibbons High School
Martin, KY: The Piarist School
Miami, FL: Southeastern Pastoral Institute (SEPI)
New York City, NY: Annunciation Parish and School
Playa Ponce, PR: Our Lady of Mount Carmel Parish and School
Rio Piedras (San Juan), PR: Colegio Calasanz and the Parish of the Divine Savior
Washington, DC: The Catholic University of America
Our twenty-nine seminarians are in various stages of their Piarist formation: 3 are studying
theology, 1 is serving a pastoral year in Cameroon, 16 are studying philosophy, 2 are in the
novitiate and 7 are in the pre-novitiate.
During the past year, the Piarist Fathers held vocational retreats at our houses of formation in
Miami, New York and Ponce. We were fortunate to have 8 young men enter our formation
program this summer.
It is hard to fathom that, only twelve years ago, we had no men in our formation program.
Through prayer, strenuous efforts on the part of our vocations and formation personnel, financial

grants, and the financial assistance of our benefactors, we have seen the Piarists’ vocation efforts
prosper. The success of our vocation efforts ensures that our mission in the United States and
Puerto Rico will continue for many years to come.
Won’t you consider assisting the Piarist Fathers’ vocation and formation programs by
making a tax-deductible donation in memory of Father Leonard Gendernalik? Please write your
check to the Piarist Fathers’ Development Office and mail it to The Piarist Fathers, P.O. Box
11822, Fort Lauderdale, FL 33339.
You can be assured that our priests and seminarians pray daily for the well-being of our
benefactors and friends.
Sincerely,
Rev. Fernando Negro, Sch.P.
Provincial Superior
Our seminarians in Ponce, PR and Miami, FL
are just some of our young men, who benefit
from the donations made in memory of Father
Leonard Gendernalik, Sch.P. They are our
future!
