GUIDE TO THE COLLECTION<br />
CENTER FOR ETHNIC STUDIES<br />
<strong>The</strong> <strong>Center</strong> <strong>for</strong> <strong>Ethnic</strong> <strong>Studies</strong>, located in Forsyth Library on the campus of <strong>Fort</strong> <strong>Hays</strong> <strong>State</strong><br />
<strong>University</strong>, is a facility established <strong>for</strong> the study of ethnic groups which settled in Kansas and made<br />
significant contributions to the economic, social, cultural and religious life of the state. A major<br />
goal of the <strong>Center</strong> is to collect, preserve, and provide access to research materials which promote<br />
and support such study.<br />
<strong>The</strong> <strong>Center</strong>, under the direction of the Head of Special Collections, is supported by Forsyth Library,<br />
the Department of History, several interest groups and individuals. Representatives from these<br />
groups act in an advisory capacity to assist the Head of Special Collections in setting goals <strong>for</strong> the<br />
development and maintenance of the Collection, and expansion of physical facilities.<br />
<strong>The</strong> Collection contains a variety of reference works, bibliographies and specialized studies,<br />
pamphlets, journals, newspapers and dissertations. General histories, diaries, genealogies,<br />
obituaries, works on folklore, folk music and art, manuscripts, maps, photographs, video<br />
documentaries, recordings (records and audiotapes) and interviews <strong>for</strong>m the bulk of the Collection.<br />
ALL OF THE MATERIALS IN THE COLLECTION ARE NON-CIRCULATING AND MUST<br />
BE USED IN THE LIBRARY. <strong>The</strong>re<strong>for</strong>e, equipment to use various <strong>for</strong>mats are located in the<br />
Collection. <strong>The</strong> room is equipped with: an audiocassette player, a videocassette player, a<br />
microfilm reader, a computer to access the catalog, and any other devices needed to use these<br />
materials.<br />
COLLECTION USE GUIDELINES -- POLICIES AND PROCEDURES<br />
Materials in this collection may be used <strong>for</strong> research purposes, but must always be cited<br />
appropriately, giving credit to the <strong>Center</strong> <strong>for</strong> <strong>Ethnic</strong> <strong>Studies</strong>, to the author(s), in any publication<br />
resulting from the use of this in<strong>for</strong>mation. EXAMPLE: "in <strong>Center</strong> <strong>for</strong> <strong>Ethnic</strong> <strong>Studies</strong>," or "Weigel<br />
Collection of the <strong>Center</strong> <strong>for</strong> <strong>Ethnic</strong> <strong>Studies</strong>," etc. As stated earlier, ALL MATERIALS IN THIS<br />
COLLECTION ARE NON-CIRCULATING; THEY MUST BE USED IN THE LIBRARY AND<br />
CANNOT BE CHECKED OUT.<br />
