2011 Program Outcomes
Provided 4651 counseling sessions to
905 women and children.
• Carolyn Nemeth, LPC, coordinates all calls requesting services and either
sets an appointment with a counselor or refers to a more appropriate
agency. Appointments with a counselor are usually scheduled within 10
working days.
• Clients ranged in age from 3 to 83. 16% of clients seen were children and
youth, 9% were women over 55, and 75% were adults ages 19 to 54.
• Through our Master’s level internship program, 3 graduate students
provided services that allowed Oasis to expand capacity by 13%.
• Sliding-scale fees for self-paying clients averaged $18.00 per session
compared to $90 to $130 per session in the private sector.
66% of Oasis clients had an annual household
income of $17,000 or less.
Of those clients who participated in at least 4 therapy sessions:
• 66% had a decrease in their depression scores
• 45% had a decrease in their anxiety scores
• 65% had an increase in their well-being scores
Of the clients responding to a Client Satisfaction Survey:
• 94% are coping better since coming to Oasis
• 96% learned skills that help improve their life situation
• 99% found their counselor to be respectful and supportive
• 99% stated they would recommend Oasis to a family member or friend

Groups
Groups conducted include:
• 37 Wise Women groups for 57 women
• 12 Body Image Group sessions for 120 women at St. Anne’s Home
• 17 sessions at Grace Clinic (a division of UAB Obstetrics) for 67 women
Education and Outreach
Workshop topics include:
• Post Partum Depression - three workshops for parents at the UAB NICU
• Depression, Ten Good Reasons to See A Counselor, Oasis Services and Impact in
Community, Women and Mental Health.

Wise Women
57 women, ages 55 to 95, participated in 37 Wise Women groups offered at Bankhead
Towers and Freedom Manor, which are apartment complexes for low-income elderly.
For the third year, the partnership with the
Junior League of Birmingham (JLB) continued in
support of the Freedom Manor Wise Women group.
JLB members and volunteers assisted Oasis staff in
presenting innovative and educational programs and
they provided lunch to the elderly women. They also
helped Oasis bring joy to the lives of these women.
In December, members of the JLB chorus led the
women in song for the holidays.
