<strong>2011</strong> Program Outcomes<br />
Provided 4651 counseling sessions to<br />
905 women and children.<br />
• Carolyn Nemeth, LPC, coordinates all calls requesting services and either<br />
sets an appointment with a counselor or refers to a more appropriate<br />
agency. Appointments with a counselor are usually scheduled within 10<br />
working days.<br />
• Clients ranged in age from 3 to 83. 16% of clients seen were children and<br />
youth, 9% were women over 55, and 75% were adults ages 19 to 54.<br />
• Through our Master’s level internship program, 3 graduate students<br />
provided services that allowed Oasis to expand capacity by 13%.<br />
• Sliding-scale fees for self-paying clients averaged $18.00 per session<br />
compared to $90 to $130 per session in the private sector.<br />
66% of Oasis clients had an annual household<br />
income of $17,000 or less.<br />
Of those clients who participated in at least 4 therapy sessions:<br />
• 66% had a decrease in their depression scores<br />
• 45% had a decrease in their anxiety scores<br />
• 65% had an increase in their well-being scores<br />
Of the clients responding to a Client Satisfaction Survey:<br />
• 94% are coping better since coming to Oasis<br />
• 96% learned skills that help improve their life situation<br />
• 99% found their counselor to be respectful and supportive<br />
• 99% stated they would recommend Oasis to a family member or friend<br />

Groups<br />
Groups conducted include:<br />
• 37 Wise Women groups for 57 women<br />
• 12 Body Image Group sessions for 120 women at St. Anne’s Home<br />
• 17 sessions at Grace Clinic (a division of UAB Obstetrics) for 67 women<br />
Education and Outreach<br />
Workshop topics include:<br />
• Post Partum Depression - three workshops for parents at the UAB NICU<br />
• Depression, Ten Good Reasons to See A Counselor, Oasis Services and Impact in<br />
Community, Women and Mental Health.<br />

Wise Women<br />
57 women, ages 55 to 95, participated in 37 Wise Women groups offered at Bankhead<br />
Towers and Freedom Manor, which are apartment complexes for low-income elderly.<br />
For the third year, the partnership with the<br />
Junior League of Birmingham (JLB) continued in<br />
support of the Freedom Manor Wise Women group.<br />
JLB members and volunteers assisted Oasis staff in<br />
presenting innovative and educational programs and<br />
they provided lunch to the elderly women. They also<br />
helped Oasis bring joy to the lives of these women.<br />
In December, members of the JLB chorus led the<br />
women in song for the holidays.<br />
