2013-2014 MASTER OF SUSTAINABLE REAL ESTATE DEVELOPMENT FACULTY<br />
CHRISTOPHER CALOTT, AIA, ULI, LF ’12<br />
is the Director <strong>of</strong> the MSRED Program.<br />
With over twenty five years <strong>of</strong> experience,<br />
Calott brings an unusual combination <strong>of</strong><br />
excellence in his creative work as an architect<br />
and urban designer as demonstrated<br />
through numerous design awards, dedication<br />
as a teacher at a number <strong>of</strong> institutions,<br />
and success as a real estate developer<br />
and entrepreneur. His innovative development work has introduced<br />
new mixed-use housing types, “infill” subdivisions, Transit-Oriented Developments,<br />
Community Supported Agriculture, affordable housing, adaptivereuse,<br />
and vibrant public spaces in the communities in which he has worked.<br />
Chris has pursued significant research on the areas <strong>of</strong> urbanism, housing and<br />
community-based design practices through published investigations tied<br />
to teaching at numerous universities throughout the United States, Mexico<br />
and Latin America. He received the prestigious Loeb Fellowship at Harvard’s<br />
Graduate <strong>School</strong> <strong>of</strong> Design in 2011-2012, w<strong>here</strong> he spent the year in residence<br />
investigating affordable housing delivery mechanisms, urban design theories,<br />
Landscape Urbanism, and Green Infrastructure design strategies. He<br />
holds a B.A., Honors, in Urban Theory and Design from Brown <strong>University</strong> and<br />
his Master <strong>of</strong> <strong>Architecture</strong> from Princeton <strong>University</strong>.<br />
RODOLFO AGUILAR is a Pr<strong>of</strong>essor <strong>of</strong> Practice<br />
in the Freeman <strong>School</strong> <strong>of</strong> Business at<br />
<strong>Tulane</strong> <strong>University</strong>. He has a BS in Architectural<br />
Engineering and a Bachelor and Master<br />
<strong>of</strong> <strong>Architecture</strong> from Louisiana State<br />
<strong>University</strong>, An MBA from <strong>Tulane</strong> <strong>University</strong><br />
Freeman <strong>School</strong> <strong>of</strong> Business and a PhD in<br />
Civil Engineering from North Carolina State<br />
<strong>University</strong>. Rudi is former Chairman and<br />
CEO <strong>of</strong> Pyburn & Odom, and current Chairman, President and CEO <strong>of</strong> The<br />
Aguilar Group, real estate appraisers. Rudi teaches within the MBA program<br />
and within the MSRED program as well as in the Executive MBA program<br />
through the Freeman <strong>School</strong> <strong>of</strong> Business.<br />
WILLIAM B. BRADSHAW II is co-founder<br />
and president <strong>of</strong> Green Coast Enterprises<br />
(GCE). For the last decade, he has developed<br />
real estate in North Carolina, Massachusetts,<br />
and Louisiana. His projects have<br />
received numerous awards including a 2001<br />
Maxwell Award <strong>of</strong> Excellence from the Fannie<br />
Mae Foundation. As a GCE co-founder,<br />
Will was named an Echoing Green fellow for<br />
2008-2010. GCE’s work has also been celebrated by Social Entrepreneurs <strong>of</strong><br />
New Orleans, All Day Buffet, CityBusiness, Fast Company magazine, and Business<br />
Week, which named Bradshaw and co-founder Reuben Teague as two <strong>of</strong><br />
the 25 most promising social entrepreneurs in the United States. Bradshaw<br />
holds a PhD in City Planning with specialties in Regional and Urban Economics<br />
and Sustainable Community Development from MIT. He also holds Masters<br />
Degrees in City Planning and Real Estate Development from the MIT and degrees<br />
in Physics and Cross-Cultural Studies from Davidson College.<br />
MAURICE COX is a nationally respected<br />
community designer and leader <strong>of</strong> the public<br />
interest design movement. Maurice is the<br />
director <strong>of</strong> the <strong>Tulane</strong> City Center as well<br />
as the associate dean for community engagement<br />
at the <strong>Tulane</strong> <strong>University</strong> <strong>School</strong><br />
<strong>of</strong> <strong>Architecture</strong>. Cox, studied architecture at<br />
Cooper Union in New York. A co-founder <strong>of</strong><br />
the national SEED (Social, Economic, Environmental, Design) Network, Cox<br />
served as design director <strong>of</strong> the National Endowment for the Arts in Washington,<br />
DC from 2007-2010. In that capacity, he led the Mayor’s Institute on<br />
City Design, the Governor’s Institute on Community Design and oversaw the<br />
award <strong>of</strong> more than $2 million a year in NEA design grants across the United<br />
States. Fast Company business magazine named Cox one <strong>of</strong> America’s “20<br />
Masters <strong>of</strong> Design” for his practice <strong>of</strong> “democratic design.” Cox’s appreciation<br />
<strong>of</strong> the civic process led him to serve as city councilmember and then mayor <strong>of</strong><br />
the City <strong>of</strong> Charlottesville from 1996-2004.
MARILYN FELDMEIER possesses over<br />
eighteen years <strong>of</strong> experience in designing<br />
and implementing architectural, interior,<br />
landscaping and campus planning projects<br />
for hotels and resorts. In her role as<br />
Project Lead and Designer she has been<br />
responsible for master-plan programming,<br />
development, and design as well as project<br />
coordination <strong>of</strong> design, production and<br />
construction teams. Marilyn’s work can be found at The Broadmoor, Colorado<br />
Springs, CO; The Don CeSar, St. Petersburg Beach, FL; Kingsmill Resort,<br />
Williamsburg, VA and The Greenbrier, White Sulphur Springs, WV. In addition,<br />
she is a Registered Architect consulting on resort and hotel properties with<br />
TAG Studio and as a principal <strong>of</strong> Studio FG. Marilyn was educated at <strong>Tulane</strong><br />
<strong>University</strong> w<strong>here</strong> she received a Bachelor and Master <strong>of</strong> <strong>Architecture</strong>. She<br />
also attended the London <strong>School</strong> <strong>of</strong> Economics w<strong>here</strong> she earned a Master <strong>of</strong><br />
Science in City Design and Social Science.<br />
MICHAEL GROTE is a real estate developer,<br />
architecturally trained designer and builder<br />
focused on community design and development.<br />
Mike has worked on the Gulf Coast<br />
in both Mississippi and Louisiana since<br />
2006 with various organizations in several<br />
capacities including university instruction,<br />
architecture, construction management<br />
and development. Since 2008 Mike has<br />
worked for Alembic Community Development and is currently the Director<br />
<strong>of</strong> Building Programs managing the design and construction aspects <strong>of</strong><br />
Alembic’s developments. Mike holds a Master <strong>of</strong> Building Construction with<br />
a Minor in Community Planning from Auburn <strong>University</strong> and a Bachelor <strong>of</strong><br />
<strong>Architecture</strong> from the <strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong> Houston.<br />
JONATHAN LEIT is a real estate developer<br />
and urban planner focused on working on<br />
revitalizing neighborhoods. Since 2007, he<br />
has served as Director <strong>of</strong> the New Orleans<br />
<strong>of</strong>fice at Alembic Community Development,<br />
w<strong>here</strong> he develops affordable housing<br />
and mixed-use properties and provides<br />
capacity building and development services<br />
to nonpr<strong>of</strong>it organizations. Jonathan<br />
holds a Master in City Planning from MIT, a Graduate Certificate from the Center<br />
for Urban Redevelopment Excellence at the <strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong> Pennsylvania<br />
<strong>School</strong> <strong>of</strong> Design, and a Bachelor <strong>of</strong> Arts in History from Columbia <strong>University</strong>.<br />
ANDREW LILES, AIA LEED AP is a native<br />
Mississippian, is an adjunct lecturer at the<br />
<strong>Tulane</strong> <strong>School</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Architecture</strong>. He is also<br />
an owner <strong>of</strong> his own practice in New Orleans.<br />
Pr<strong>of</strong>essor Liles’ education includes a<br />
Bachelor <strong>of</strong> <strong>Architecture</strong> from Mississippi<br />
State <strong>University</strong>, and a Master <strong>of</strong> <strong>Architecture</strong><br />
from <strong>Tulane</strong> <strong>University</strong>. Pr<strong>of</strong>essor Liles<br />
focuses practice in the southeast with projects<br />
ranging from large commercial to regional residential work. A LEED Accredited<br />
Pr<strong>of</strong>essional, he helped found what became the Mississippi Chapter<br />
<strong>of</strong> the US Green Building Council. He serves on both the Executive Board and<br />
the Board <strong>of</strong> Directors. Pr<strong>of</strong>essor Liles has been a project architect for both<br />
award winning and sustainable architecture, and now returns to New Orleans<br />
with his wife, Charlane, and their children, Amos and Owen.<br />
KELLY LONGWELL is a Director in the New<br />
Orleans <strong>of</strong>fice <strong>of</strong> Coats Rose, w<strong>here</strong> she<br />
concentrates in the areas <strong>of</strong> real estate,<br />
affordable housing and taxation. She has<br />
represented developers and investors in a<br />
wide variety <strong>of</strong> projects including hotels,<br />
apartment complexes, <strong>of</strong>fice buildings, residential<br />
condominiums and retail commercial<br />
space. Kelly has been selected for inclusion to Woodward White’s Best<br />
Lawyers in America for Real Estate Law. Kelly has experience in real estate<br />
development, corporate and partnership taxation and tax-exempt organizations.<br />
Her experience with real estate development has focused primarily<br />
on representing and advising private developers and investors as to federal<br />
tax incentives, including the historic rehabilitation tax credit, the low-income<br />
housing tax credit, facade donations and real estate syndications. Kelly has<br />
also been involved in the structure <strong>of</strong> various real estate transactions, with<br />
an emphasis on maximizing the tax benefits. The diverse structures utilized<br />
by the parties to the transaction include Section 1031 tax-free exchanges <strong>of</strong><br />
property, sale/leaseback transactions, tax increment financing, and equity<br />
syndications. Kelly holds a LL.M degree in Taxation from NYU, a JD from LSU<br />
and a Bachelor’s degree from <strong>Tulane</strong> <strong>University</strong>.<br />
NEAL MORRIS is a real estate developer<br />
and attorney. He received his B.A., M.B.A.,<br />
and J.D. degrees from <strong>Tulane</strong> <strong>University</strong>. He<br />
is a Harvard <strong>University</strong> Loeb Fellow. During<br />
his year in residence in 2009-2010 Neal<br />
researched blight elimination strategies and<br />
lectured on affordable housing finance. In<br />
2000 Neal founded Redmellon Restoration<br />
and Development. The firm is a mission-driven company that focuses its efforts<br />
on large urban infill projects consisting <strong>of</strong> single-family and two-family<br />
homes. In 2006 Redmellon was awarded the Innovation in Housing Award<br />
from the Louisiana Housing Finance Agency. In the past several years Redmellon<br />
has renovated or developed over 400 units <strong>of</strong> affordable housing in New<br />
Orleans. Redmellon’s current project is the historic rehabilitation <strong>of</strong> 51 units<br />
<strong>of</strong> formerly blighted singles and doubles in the Carrolton, H<strong>of</strong>fman Triangle,<br />
and 7th Ward neighborhoods utilizing low income housing tax credits, historic<br />
rehabilitation tax credits, and NSP2 funds.<br />

BYRON J. MOUTON is an established architect,<br />
educator, New Orleans native,<br />
and alumnus <strong>of</strong> <strong>Tulane</strong> <strong>University</strong>. He has<br />
traveled a path from New Orleans through<br />
Harvard’s Graduate <strong>School</strong> <strong>of</strong> Design to<br />
pr<strong>of</strong>essional practice in Central Europe,<br />
and eventually back home. He now finds<br />
himself committed to building his locallybased<br />
practice BILD Design, in conjunction<br />
with his academic role as Pr<strong>of</strong>essor <strong>of</strong> Practice at <strong>Tulane</strong>’s <strong>School</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Architecture</strong>,<br />
Director <strong>of</strong> the school’s design/build program URBANbuild and as<br />
the recently appointed ‘New Day Pr<strong>of</strong>essor <strong>of</strong> Social Entrepreneurship’. With<br />
more than 20 years <strong>of</strong> experience in the fields <strong>of</strong> architecture and construction,<br />
several award-winning projects, and exposure in national and international<br />
publications, Byron is committed to critical assignments that exemplify<br />
a collaborative planning approach and a dedication to the regional remediation<br />
<strong>of</strong> New Orleans. Over the past 14 years, as Principal <strong>of</strong> BILD, Byron has<br />
explored alternative models for affordable housing within the context <strong>of</strong> the<br />
city’s sometimes peculiar setting, and he continues to <strong>of</strong>fer the city progressive<br />
options for domestic growth in the face <strong>of</strong> on-going challenges.<br />
CASIUS PEALER is Principal <strong>of</strong> Oyster Tree<br />
Consulting L3C. Oyster Tree specializes in<br />
supporting public agencies and nonpr<strong>of</strong>it<br />
developers using green building as an additional<br />
tool to achieve long-term affordable<br />
housing solutions. Casius has 14 years<br />
<strong>of</strong> community development experience, including<br />
five years as legal counsel for public<br />
housing authorities across the country<br />
implementing mixed-finance redevelopment projects. Casius served as the<br />
first Director <strong>of</strong> Affordable Housing at the U.S. Green Building Council and<br />
is a Senior Sustainable Building Advisor for the Affordable Housing Institute<br />
in Boston. Casius is 2011 Chair <strong>of</strong> the American Institute <strong>of</strong> Architects (AIA)<br />
Housing Committee and is a board member <strong>of</strong> the Association for Community<br />
Design, a national nonpr<strong>of</strong>it organization <strong>of</strong> community-based architects and<br />
designers. He has been published in the ABA Journal <strong>of</strong> Affordable Housing<br />
and Community Development Law as well as the AIA Journal <strong>of</strong> <strong>Architecture</strong><br />
and Architectural Record, and is a regular speaker at pr<strong>of</strong>essional conferences<br />
nationally. Casius holds a Masters in <strong>Architecture</strong> from <strong>Tulane</strong> <strong>University</strong>’s<br />
<strong>School</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Architecture</strong> and a J.D. from the <strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong> Michigan Law <strong>School</strong>.<br />
JASON NEVILLE is an urban planner and<br />
redevelopment pr<strong>of</strong>essional whose passion<br />
is working together with people to<br />
make cities better. Jason is currently Senior<br />
Planner at the New Orleans Redevelopment<br />
Authority, developing strategies<br />
for sustainable redevelopment <strong>of</strong> NORA’s<br />
vacant lot portfolio. Jason also worked as<br />
planner and project manager for the Community<br />
Redevelopment Agency <strong>of</strong> Los Angeles from 2007-2012, focusing on<br />
industrial land use, Los Angeles River Revitalization, the City <strong>of</strong> Los Angeles’<br />
clean technology attraction strategy, and community redevelopment in<br />
South Los Angeles. He received an undergraduate degree in Urban Studies<br />
from the <strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong> New Orleans and a graduate degree in Urban Planning<br />
from the <strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong> Southern California.<br />
AMBER SEELY is an urban redevelopment<br />
pr<strong>of</strong>essional engaged in real estate development,<br />
community development, urban<br />
planning and public policy. For five years<br />
she focused on real estate development for<br />
a quasi-public entity and a non-pr<strong>of</strong>it organization.<br />
Building on her real estate finance<br />
and underwriting work, Amber became a<br />
certified real estate market analyst and consulted with a variety <strong>of</strong> clients to<br />
strengthen real estate development proposals throughout the New Orleans<br />
region post-Katrina. She is now the Interim Director <strong>of</strong> Economic Development<br />
for the Regional Planning Commission, coordinating long-term planning<br />
in the five-parish region. Amber holds a Masters in Urban Policy from The<br />
New <strong>School</strong> and an Urban Redevelopment Certificate from the <strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong><br />
Pennsylvania <strong>School</strong> <strong>of</strong> Design.<br />
CORNELIUS PAYNE is the Lead Real Estate<br />
Developer for the Housing Authority<br />
<strong>of</strong> New Orleans. He previously worked as<br />
a Project Manager for Gulf Coast Housing<br />
Partnership (GCHP), a local non-pr<strong>of</strong>it<br />
real estate development company, w<strong>here</strong><br />
he developed over 200 units <strong>of</strong> affordable<br />
and mixed-income housing in Baton<br />
Rouge and New Orleans. Prior to GCHP,<br />
Payne also worked as an Assistant Project Manager at Enterprise Community<br />
Partners (ECP) in their Gulf Coast Office based in New Orleans. While<br />
at ECP, Payne redeveloped the Lafitte Public Housing Redevelopment. Additionally,<br />
Cornelius has held a number <strong>of</strong> positions throughout his career,<br />
with the New York City Housing Development Corporation, the FDIC, and<br />
the Southern <strong>University</strong> System, Office <strong>of</strong> the President. Mr. Payne received<br />
a Master <strong>of</strong> Science with Distinction in Real Estate Development from Columbia<br />
<strong>University</strong> in New York City; and a Bachelor <strong>of</strong> Science degree in<br />
Business Economics and Finance from Southern <strong>University</strong> in Baton Rouge.<br />
ALEXANDRA STROUD has over twenty<br />
years <strong>of</strong> experience as a licensed architect<br />
and real estate pr<strong>of</strong>essional specializing in<br />
financial and feasibility analysis, development<br />
implementation and project management.<br />
Urban Focus LLC, her company,<br />
provides strategic real estate development<br />
consulting services for communities and<br />
municipalities. Her experience includes affordable housing financing, mixed<br />
income and transit oriented development. Working in communities in New<br />
Orleans and the surrounding region, Washington, DC; Jacksonville, Boston,<br />
Detroit, Minneapolis-St Paul, Maryland, Northern Virginia and Oklahoma City,<br />
she has worked as a real estate pr<strong>of</strong>essional and developer financing complex<br />
and large scale development opportunities in urban areas. Ms Stroud’s firm is<br />
based in New Orleans, Louisiana with an <strong>of</strong>fice in Washington D.C. Ms. Stroud<br />
holds a Master <strong>of</strong> <strong>Architecture</strong> from <strong>Tulane</strong> <strong>University</strong> and a Master <strong>of</strong> Science<br />
in Real Estate Development from MIT. Ms. Stroud is a LEED Accredited<br />
Pr<strong>of</strong>essional.<br />

JOHN STUBBS served as Vice President<br />
for Field Projects from 1990 until 2011 at<br />
the World Monuments Fund (WMF) in New<br />
York, w<strong>here</strong> he directed scores <strong>of</strong> the organization’s<br />
projects across the world. He<br />
conducted over two dozen international<br />
planning symposia and charettes, and was<br />
instrumental in the establishment and early<br />
management <strong>of</strong> WMF’s famed Watch List<br />
<strong>of</strong> endangered sites program. Prior to the WMF, Stubbs served for twenty<br />
years as an Adjunct Associate Pr<strong>of</strong>essor <strong>of</strong> Historic Preservation in Columbia<br />
<strong>University</strong>’s Graduate Program in <strong>Architecture</strong>, Planning and Preservation. He<br />
has also taught preservation documentation and design studios at both Columbia<br />
and the <strong>School</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Architecture</strong> at Louisiana State <strong>University</strong> (LSU). He<br />
holds a Master <strong>of</strong> Science in Historic Preservation from Columbia <strong>University</strong>, a<br />
Bachelor <strong>of</strong> Science in Construction Technology with a minor in Architectural<br />
History from LSU, and attained post-graduate training as a UNESCO Fellow<br />
at the International Centre for the Conservation and Restoration <strong>of</strong> Cultural<br />
Property in Rome. In 1978, John Stubbs worked as a Historical Architect for<br />
the Technical Preservation Services Division <strong>of</strong> the U.S. Department <strong>of</strong> the<br />
Interior in Washington, D.C. administering federal tax incentives for rehabilitating<br />
historic buildings. He later went on to serve as Assistant Director <strong>of</strong><br />
Historic Preservation Projects at Beyer Blinder Belle in New York for ten years,<br />
and as a Trustee <strong>of</strong> the Archaeological Institute <strong>of</strong> America. He is a founding<br />
board member <strong>of</strong> the James Marston Fitch Charitable Foundation to which<br />
he was also named its chairman in 2008.<br />
JONATHAN TATE is principal <strong>of</strong> Office <strong>of</strong><br />
Jonathan Tate (OJT), an architecture and<br />
urban design practice in New Orleans. His<br />
projects and research encompass investigations<br />
into opportunistic urban development—informal<br />
settlements, infill housing,<br />
ecological infrastructure, etc.—and their<br />
spatial and cultural implications in cities<br />
worldwide. His works with OJT, and in previous<br />
<strong>of</strong>fices, includes a wide variety <strong>of</strong> project and program types, and have<br />
been extensively published nationally and internationally. Jon is a graduate<br />
<strong>of</strong> Auburn <strong>University</strong>, w<strong>here</strong> he also participated in the Rural Studio, and the<br />
Harvard <strong>University</strong> Graduate <strong>School</strong> <strong>of</strong> Design.<br />
SARA MEADOWS TOLLESON is a senior<br />
project manager at Gulf Coast Housing<br />
Partnership, a New Orleans-based nonpr<strong>of</strong>it<br />
real estate development company. Her<br />
portfolio at GCHP has included affordable<br />
multifamily, commercial and mixed-use<br />
projects in Louisiana and Mississippi. Previously,<br />
she was the Deputy Regional Director<br />
for Gulf Coast Rebuilding for the Office <strong>of</strong><br />
Federal Coordination in post-Katrina New Orleans and the Program Coordinator<br />
for Keep Austin Beautiful in Austin, Texas. Sara Meadows received her B.A.<br />
in Art History from the <strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong> Mississippi and holds a Master’s <strong>of</strong> Public<br />
Affairs from the LBJ <strong>School</strong> <strong>of</strong> Public Affairs at UT- Austin. She was a 2007-<br />
2008 Fellow in the <strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong> Pennsylvania’s Center for Urban Redevelopment<br />
Excellence (CUREX) fellowship program.<br />
PRISCA WEEMS is Founder and Managing<br />
Partner <strong>of</strong> FuturePro<strong>of</strong>. Prisca works<br />
with the development community to integrate<br />
sustainable design and LID practices<br />
in residential, commercial and government<br />
sector projects with aggressive sustainability<br />
goals, as well as providing strategy<br />
and oversight in the design and execution<br />
<strong>of</strong> community and regional-scale initiatives.<br />
She has practiced as a design pr<strong>of</strong>essional in the US and Europe since 1995<br />
and is currently focused on sustainability master planning and green infrastructure,<br />
including working with municipalities to develop policies and funding<br />
structures to support progressive development practices. Prisca holds a<br />
Master <strong>of</strong> <strong>Architecture</strong> from <strong>Tulane</strong> <strong>University</strong> <strong>School</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Architecture</strong>, a postgraduate<br />
degree in Advanced Environmental and Energy Sciences from the<br />
Centre for Alternative Technology in Wales/<strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong> East London, and is<br />
a LEED Accredited Pr<strong>of</strong>essional, Living Building Ambassador, and Enterprise<br />
Green Communities National Technical Assistance Provider.<br />
JOY WILLIG has over twenty years <strong>of</strong> experience<br />
as an attorney and senior advisor<br />
specializing in real estate development and<br />
finance, with significant expertise in legal<br />
analysis, negotiation and problem solving.<br />
She has served as Senior Vice President<br />
and Counsel and as a senior executive <strong>of</strong><br />
multiple state agencies in New York State,<br />
as Advisor to the Director <strong>of</strong> Real Estate Planning and Development for the<br />
Housing Authority <strong>of</strong> New Orleans, and Development Consultant to HRI Properties.<br />
Ms. Willig has been instrumental in the financial and legal structuring<br />
<strong>of</strong> complex multi-family housing in New York City, New York State and New<br />
