Instructor Certification for<br />

Education and Training Professionals<br />

<strong>NCATT</strong> and its industry partners believe that education and training is a significant factor in<br />

the development of the foundational skills and knowledge upon which professionalism is<br />

based. In accordance with its commitment to and its mission to recognize professionalism<br />

through certification, <strong>NCATT</strong> has established a Professional Instructor Certification Program.<br />

This program is available to all educators and trainers regardless of their teaching discipline.<br />

<strong>NCATT</strong> Certified Instructor<br />

• Professional Development Coursework in *Education Studies<br />

o 6 credit hours in Education Studies from an accredited institution; or<br />

o 90 hours of non-credit coursework in education, instruction, or training; or any combination of<br />

college credit and non-credit professional development hours that total 90 hours using one (1)<br />

credit hour to equal fifteen (15) CEUs or contact hours.<br />

• Technical Qualifications<br />

o 3 years of experience utilizing technical or knowledge based skills, and procedures utilized<br />

within a focused career field or specialty (e.g., corporate/industry trainer); or<br />

o Applicable licensures or certifications needed to comply with the educational and experiential<br />

qualification required by the licensing, certifying, or accrediting agency.<br />

<strong>NCATT</strong> Certified Senior Instructor<br />

• <strong>NCATT</strong> Certified Instructor Requirements<br />

• Professional Development Coursework in *Education Studies<br />

o 12 credit hours (min. cumulative) in Education Studies from an accredited institution; or<br />

o 180 hours (min. cumulative) of non-credit coursework in education, instruction, or training; or<br />

any combination of college credit and non-credit professional development hours that total 180<br />

hours using one (1) credit hour to equal fifteen (15) CEUs or contact hours.<br />

• Instructional Experience<br />

o 2,000 contact hours of instruction<br />

• Degree<br />

o Associate degree or higher from an accredited institution (degree may fall outside of the<br />

education career field, e.g., Associate of Applied Science in Aerospace Studies)<br />

<strong>NCATT</strong> Certified Master Instructor<br />

• <strong>NCATT</strong> Certified Senior Instructor Requirements<br />

• Professional Development Coursework in *Education Studies<br />

o 18 credit hours (min. cumulative) college credit in Education Studies from an accredited<br />

institution; or<br />

o 270 hours (min. cumulative) of non-credit coursework in education, instruction, or training; or<br />

any combination of college credit and non-credit professional development hours that total 270<br />

hours using one (1) credit hour to equal fifteen (15) CEUs or contact hours<br />

• Instructional Experience<br />

o 3,000 contact hours of instruction<br />

• Degree<br />

o Bachelors degree or higher from an accredited institution (degree may fall outside of the<br />

education career field, e.g., Bachelor of Business Administration, Electrical Engineering)<br />

• Professional Recommendation<br />

Certification Renewal<br />

All <strong>NCATT</strong> Certified Instructors establish that they are “Current” by submitting a renewal application.<br />

The application will be evaluated to determine that in the preceding 24 calendar months the <strong>NCATT</strong><br />

Certified Instructor success<strong>full</strong>y completed the following (minimum) Professional Development<br />

Coursework and Technical Training Qualification.<br />

• Professional Development Coursework *Education Studies<br />

o 12 contact hours of non-credit coursework in education, instruction, or training; or any<br />

combination of college credit and non-credit professional development hours that total 12<br />

contact hours; using one (1) credit hour to equal fifteen (15) CEUs or contact hours.<br />

• Technical Training/Education<br />

o 12 contact hours of re-current or advanced technical education and/or training in the career<br />

field or specialty in which the instructor is certified.<br />

*Education Studies – Education Studies coursework are courses that are designed for individuals who work, or plan to<br />

work, in the career field of education/training.<br />

**Non-Credit Professional Development in Education Studies – Training could include, but is not limited to, topics in<br />

current academic developments, new technologies and curricular applications; the integration of academic and technical<br />

curricula; the use of effective teaching strategies; the appreciation of diverse student backgrounds and needs; the effective<br />

use of research in instruction, and use of technology/multimedia/telecommunications in instruction.<br />
