INSTALLATION RECOMMENDATIONS
1. Site conditions
Any sub floor is suitable if it is level, firm, free of cracks and dry. A maximum of 75% relative humidity is permitted when
measured using a hygrometer. Dense, non-absorbent sub floors such as mastic asphalt must be covered with a levelling
compound at least 3mm thick. SCALA PUR should be installed at a minimum room temperature of 18ºC with a maximum
relative humidity of 65%.
1.1 Conditioning
SCALA PUR vinyl floorcovering should be stored at 18ºC for at least 48 hours prior to installation. When installing ensure that
every carton is from the same batch. Use the material in sequential carton numbers. This ensures good shade control.
2. Adhesives
There are a number of adhesives that can be used with this type of floorcovering:
2.1 For normal installations the use of an acrylic adhesive is recommended.
2.2 Where the installation will be subject to wet conditions, the use of an epoxy adhesive is recommended.
3. General
Before installing SCALA PUR take the material from 2 or 3 consecutive cartons and examine the pattern graining to ensure
that the graining is evenly spread over the whole installation and not concentrated in certain areas.
4. Installation
After establishing a starting point:
4.1 Lay out one row of tiles in each direction to the walls to ensure that there are no thin strips (less than 1/2 tile) at the
wall. If this is the case move the tiles slightly away from the centre to offset this.
4.2 Spread a band of adhesive approximately 1m wide in the area where installation is to commence. Allow the adhesive to
become slightly tacky. Install the first tile ensuring that it is parallel to the chalked lines.
4.3 Continue laying the tiles ensuring that they are butted tightly. Cut the planks to the correct length at the floor to wall joint.
4.4 Ensure that in adjacent rows of tiles (wood designs only) that the ends of the planks are offset by about 25cm.
4.5 Roll the installation in both directions with a 68kg flooring roller. Further reference to sub floor preparation and installation
can be found in BS 8203.

CLEANING RECOMMENDATIONS
1. Care and cleaning
If a resilient floorcovering is used without proper care and maintenance it will wear out more quickly and may also discolour. It is
therefore essential to implement a regular and effective maintenance programme to preserve the products good looks and prolong
its useful life.
1.1 Initial cleaning
Before the floorcovering is handed over to its user it is often subjected to an end of construction clean including the application
of acrylic emulsion polishes. Follow adhesive manufacturers guidelines for curing of adhesive before carrying out the initial clean.
a. Thoroughly clean the floor using a clean mop and a neutral (ph 6-9) detergent solution.
b. Difficult marks can be removed with a red nylon scouring pad and stronger concentration of detergent solution.
c. Rinse floor thoroughly with clean water to remove traces of detergent and allow to dry.
d. No consolidation treatment with surface polish coatings is required. Additional protection apply a single coat
of undiluted maintainer prior to implementing the ongoing regime with maintainer products.
1.2 Regular maintenance
Machine
a. Sweep or vacuum floor to remove dust and grit particles.
b. Clean, dry and buff the floor using a single disc rotary cleaning machine using a red pad. Spray buff using diluted
maintainer.
Manually
c. Sweep or vacuum floor to remove dust and grit particles.
d. Damp mop the floor with a diluted neutral detergent solution (pH 6-9) or maintainer.
e. Remove difficult marks with a red nylon scouring pad.
1.3 Periodic maintenance
Use of an effective maintenance regime using good quality floor products will reduce the frequency of periodic maintenance
when restorative cleaning is required. Contact Armstrong Floor Products Technical Department for recommended procedures
and products.
