The <strong>Marathon</strong> Visi<strong>to</strong>r Information Centre, located on<br />
Highway 17, is a popular <strong>to</strong>urist hub serving 10,000<br />
visi<strong>to</strong>rs each year. It is fully staffed and operational from<br />
the beginning of May until the end of September.<br />
Our Visi<strong>to</strong>r Centre is beautifully designed <strong>to</strong> reflect<br />
the community and its rich his<strong>to</strong>ry. Visi<strong>to</strong>rs can find<br />
information brochures, maps, and guides, not only for<br />
<strong>Marathon</strong>, but for several travel destinations throughout<br />
Canada and the US.<br />

Canada. Easily accessible, <strong>Marathon</strong> is located on<br />

Activities<br />
Experience the great outdoors with <strong>Marathon</strong>’s array of<br />
wilderness parks and outdoor recreational activities.<br />
Located on the shores of beautiful Lake Superior,<br />
<strong>Marathon</strong> offers an ideal environment for the<br />
outdoor enthusiast, including hunting and fishing,<br />
canoeing / kayaking, hiking, golf, skiing, wildlife and<br />
bird watching, and much more.<br />
<strong>Marathon</strong> also offers its <strong>to</strong>urists a host of indoor<br />
recreational activities. From swimming at the local Port<br />
Hole Pool or skating at our indoor ice arena, <strong>to</strong> bowling<br />
or curling, we have exciting activities for all ages!<br />
Outdoor Activities<br />
• Hiking / Backpacking<br />
Explore the coastline of Lake Superior or woodland<br />
features and enjoy the spectacular views and<br />
interesting flora and fauna.<br />
• Cross country skiing<br />
Training site for the Canadian team in preparation for<br />
the 1995 Nordic World Ski Championships. Over 14 km<br />
of groomed classic and skate skiing trails, including<br />
lit trails for night skiing. Equipment rentals, lessons and<br />
group rates available.<br />
• Mountain Biking<br />
Past Canadian mountain bike champions have trained<br />
on our numerous accessible trails.<br />
• Golfing<br />
Peninsula Golf Course is a Stanley Thompson<br />
signature course overlooking Lake Superior. This<br />
beautiful public course offers a licensed clubhouse,<br />
