Come in and use our Learning Resource Centre – everyone studying on a course or apprenticeship is welcome. You will find that the LRC has a helpful, friendly team of staff, always ready to lend a hand and offer advice. Our LRC provides a “one-stop shop” for your information, computing, study and coursework presentation requirements, in a flexible learning environment. There are work areas for individual and group study. These facilities are well equipped and incorporate a wide variety of different types of learning resources such as books, magazines, newspapers, DVDs, online electronic resources and the Internet. After studying archaeology at UCL, she decided to follow her passion and is now one year in to a two year Diploma in Portrait Painting at the prestigious Heatherley’s College in London. She is specialising mainly in oils which she remembers being introduced to by Jeremy Taylor, one of the College art tutors. She recalls how the College staff across all the courses including Life Drawing and Watercolours too, gave her both technical skills and vital encouragement. WE CARE SO THEY CAN CARE Five employees from the Yorkshire Clinic celebrated the successful completion of their Level 3 workbased Health & Social Care course. As part of this commitment to personal and professional development, each undertook a six month work placement spread across a range of different departments including the operating theatre, the ward, the pain clinic and angiography. Former ward clerk, Fiona Hennah, who was motivated by a desire to be more actively involved in patient care, says: “The qualification confirms I have the right skills and I am glad I made the choice as I love the contact with patients.” NATIONAL UNION OF STUDENTS (NUS) Students enrolled on a course at Shipley College get free membership to the NUS.
