Shoalhaven Dressage Club Inc December 2009
PRESIDENTS REPORT
Hi Everyone,
Here we are once again looking down the barrel of Xmas. Where has the
year gone? It has been a good year for the Club, being able to run every
competition, though we did encounter some very wet afternoons and hats
off to those dertermined riders who didn't let a little bit of H2O spoil
their day.
The Championships had over $12,000 worth of prizes up for grabs this
year. We, had outstanding sponsorship support from our local businesses.
Michelle Miran was instramental in securing most of this sponsorship and
has asked that when you are doing business with one of our sponsors,
please mention the Champs and give a 'thanks for the sponsorship'. We
want to entice them back for next year.
The Club is in a very good financial position come the end of the year. We
have been able to afford all the things we have wanted, e.g., the new
arena rails, trophy cabinet, trees to help hedge along the sand arena,
more fill and sand and laser leveling for the sand arena. I am very proud
of those hard working committee members who have made all this
possible. The committee are trying to be proactive and progressive to
provide the best they can for our members. So when you see a frazzled,
overworked committee member, give them a pat on the back, 'cause it is
all done for you 'the club members'.
2010 will see us celebrate our silver anniversary. It is 25 years since the
club became incorporated. So silver will be the Club's colours for 2010.
We are on track to have twilight dressage next year, the lights just need
a little more 'tweaking' then we will be off and riding. We are hoping to
be able to have a few more 'riders clinics' for everyone. The website will
be looking a bit different after Xmas with more information getting out
to everyone a bit quicker.
I am hoping to catch up with everyone at the presentation night on the
16 th Jan 2010.
Till then
Stay safe everyone and have a great Xmas.
Gayle

Barb Vial's Holiday Report
August/September this year, I joined twenty-six other folk on 'The Horse Magazine' tour of
Germany and the U.K. The focus of this trip was to visit Breeding Barns and Training Stables
across a large area of Germany. Added to this was a week at Windsor for the European Dressage
Championships.
We went to five different studs, three of them state owned and all of them beautifully set out
and presented. So many wonderful quality mares, producing gorgeous off spring, by well-known
stallions.
We spent six days in Verden for the foal auction and what a joy to see day after day of superbly
trained and presented mares and foals. Sixteen fillies are coming back to Australia, four of them
bought by members of our group. Very exiting
The highlight for me was the half-day we spent with Ingrid Klimke, at her barn. She is truly a
lovely person, a brilliant rider and a true all-round horsewoman
The Championship at Windsor created history with the tests of 'Totalas' and 'Parsival' reaching
new record high scores. How lucky to have been there.
Back to Germany for five days at the Bunderschampionate. This is the National competition for
young performance horses in five disciplines. Again, the organization and presentation was
outstanding, not to mention the best of the best of Germany's young horses. The shopaholics
amongst us had a wonderful (if not expensive) time at the huge trade fair!
I stayed on for a super judges clinic with two hundred people from all over the world. The
emphasis was on producing the young dressage horse working calmly and correctly, right through
to the G.P. horse, still enjoying his work and achieving the results. Our 'guinea pig' rider on the
G.P. horse was Hubertus Schmidt - how about that for impressive!!!!!
All in all, a great tour and I am so glad I saved up time and money and was able to go.
A small contingent of riders travelled south to compete at the Eurobodalla
Dressage Club's Championship the weekend.
