May 13, <strong>2015</strong> (Coon Rapids, MN) – <strong>The</strong> <strong>Minnesota</strong> <strong>Section</strong> <strong>PGA</strong> Foundation announced today that ten programs<br />

have been selected to receive grants for player development through <strong>the</strong> George Waters Memorial Grant<br />

Program. <strong>The</strong> George Waters Memorial Grant Program was established to help worthy <strong>PGA</strong> Pr<strong>of</strong>essionals and<br />

o<strong>the</strong>r golf related Player Development or Golf in School programs fur<strong>the</strong>r <strong>the</strong>ir goals in player development with<br />

an emphasis on junior golf, disabled golfers or Special Olympics athletes. <strong>The</strong> Program was developed from <strong>the</strong><br />

gracious support <strong>of</strong> <strong>PGA</strong> Pr<strong>of</strong>essional George Waters. Waters, owner <strong>of</strong> George’s Driving Range and a <strong>PGA</strong><br />

Member for more than 50 years, enjoyed teaching <strong>the</strong> game <strong>of</strong> golf to all interested including juniors. <strong>The</strong> ten<br />

programs selected to receive support in <strong>2015</strong> include:<br />

“Golf in <strong>the</strong> Schools” Program – Chisago Lakes Golf Course (Third Grant)<br />

<strong>The</strong> “Golf in <strong>the</strong> Schools” program is designed to introduce every third through fifth grade student in <strong>the</strong> Chisago<br />

Lakes School District to <strong>the</strong> game <strong>of</strong> golf. <strong>The</strong> program will include three class sessions during school and a field<br />

trip to <strong>the</strong> golf course.<br />

Wild Marsh Golf Club – City <strong>of</strong> Buffalo Junior Golf Program (Third Grant)<br />

<strong>The</strong> program is a joint effort between Wild Marsh Golf Club, Buffalo Heights Golf Course and <strong>the</strong> city <strong>of</strong> Buffalo,<br />

MN to introduce children ages 7-12 to <strong>the</strong> game.<br />

Northwest Junior Golf League – Bunker Hills GC and Rush Creek GC (Second Grant)<br />

Program will be conducted at four facilities, Bunker Hills GC, Cedar Creek GC, Riverwood National GC, and Rush<br />

Creek GC and will bring junior golfers ages 8-14 toge<strong>the</strong>r for on-course instruction and competitions.<br />

<strong>The</strong> First Tee Saint Paul – Highland Friendship Club Golf Program (Second Grant)<br />

<strong>The</strong> golf program was established to expand <strong>the</strong> First Tee’s relationship in providing golf opportunities to<br />

individuals with disabilities ranging from teenagers to adults. <strong>The</strong> Highland Friendship Club has more than 250<br />

members with disabilities that will have <strong>the</strong> opportunity to be part <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> program.<br />

Ramsey County First Tee Saint Paul Scholarships<br />

<strong>The</strong> program was established to provide scholarships to underprivileged youths to attend <strong>the</strong> First Tee Saint<br />

Paul’s First Tee program in Saint Paul.<br />

“Golf in <strong>the</strong> Schools” Program – Wilson Golf Group and Mahtomedi Schools<br />

<strong>The</strong> “Golf in <strong>the</strong> Schools” program is designed to introduce every third through fifth grade student in <strong>the</strong><br />

Mahtomedi School District to <strong>the</strong> game <strong>of</strong> golf. <strong>The</strong> program includes class sessions during school using SNAG<br />

golf equipment.<br />

“Golf in <strong>the</strong> Schools” Program – Braemar Golf Dome & Edina High School<br />

<strong>The</strong> “Golf in <strong>the</strong> Schools” program is designed to introduce High School students in <strong>the</strong> Edina School District to<br />

<strong>the</strong> game <strong>of</strong> golf. <strong>The</strong> program includes class sessions during school at <strong>the</strong> Braemar Golf Dome.<br />

“Swing Fore it Golf Camp” Program – Rush Creek Golf Club<br />

<strong>The</strong> “Swing Fore it Golf Camp” is designed to introduce Special Olympic athletes to <strong>the</strong> game <strong>of</strong> golf. <strong>The</strong> weekly<br />

program introduces athletes beginning to learn golf as well as those that already know <strong>the</strong> game.<br />

“Courage Kenny” Adaptive Golf Program – Three Rivers Park District<br />

<strong>The</strong> “Courage Kenny” golf program helps introduce <strong>the</strong> game <strong>of</strong> golf to individuals with physical challenges that<br />

include amputees, spinal and brain injuries and a variety <strong>of</strong> o<strong>the</strong>r diseases and physical challenges.
