May 13, 2015 (Coon Rapids, MN) – The Minnesota Section PGA Foundation announced today that ten programs
have been selected to receive grants for player development through the George Waters Memorial Grant
Program. The George Waters Memorial Grant Program was established to help worthy PGA Professionals and
other golf related Player Development or Golf in School programs further their goals in player development with
an emphasis on junior golf, disabled golfers or Special Olympics athletes. The Program was developed from the
gracious support of PGA Professional George Waters. Waters, owner of George’s Driving Range and a PGA
Member for more than 50 years, enjoyed teaching the game of golf to all interested including juniors. The ten
programs selected to receive support in 2015 include:
“Golf in the Schools” Program – Chisago Lakes Golf Course (Third Grant)
The “Golf in the Schools” program is designed to introduce every third through fifth grade student in the Chisago
Lakes School District to the game of golf. The program will include three class sessions during school and a field
trip to the golf course.
Wild Marsh Golf Club – City of Buffalo Junior Golf Program (Third Grant)
The program is a joint effort between Wild Marsh Golf Club, Buffalo Heights Golf Course and the city of Buffalo,
MN to introduce children ages 7-12 to the game.
Northwest Junior Golf League – Bunker Hills GC and Rush Creek GC (Second Grant)
Program will be conducted at four facilities, Bunker Hills GC, Cedar Creek GC, Riverwood National GC, and Rush
Creek GC and will bring junior golfers ages 8-14 together for on-course instruction and competitions.
The First Tee Saint Paul – Highland Friendship Club Golf Program (Second Grant)
The golf program was established to expand the First Tee’s relationship in providing golf opportunities to
individuals with disabilities ranging from teenagers to adults. The Highland Friendship Club has more than 250
members with disabilities that will have the opportunity to be part of the program.
Ramsey County First Tee Saint Paul Scholarships
The program was established to provide scholarships to underprivileged youths to attend the First Tee Saint
Paul’s First Tee program in Saint Paul.
“Golf in the Schools” Program – Wilson Golf Group and Mahtomedi Schools
The “Golf in the Schools” program is designed to introduce every third through fifth grade student in the
Mahtomedi School District to the game of golf. The program includes class sessions during school using SNAG
golf equipment.
“Golf in the Schools” Program – Braemar Golf Dome & Edina High School
The “Golf in the Schools” program is designed to introduce High School students in the Edina School District to
the game of golf. The program includes class sessions during school at the Braemar Golf Dome.
“Swing Fore it Golf Camp” Program – Rush Creek Golf Club
The “Swing Fore it Golf Camp” is designed to introduce Special Olympic athletes to the game of golf. The weekly
program introduces athletes beginning to learn golf as well as those that already know the game.
“Courage Kenny” Adaptive Golf Program – Three Rivers Park District
The “Courage Kenny” golf program helps introduce the game of golf to individuals with physical challenges that
include amputees, spinal and brain injuries and a variety of other diseases and physical challenges.
