On a breezy, sunny day in West St. Paul, the Minnesota Section PGA Junior Golf Association hosted its'
annual Valspar Junior Tour "Warrior" Cup tournament at Hillcrest Golf & Country Club. This was a one
day, 18 Hole event featuring the 13-15 age division for both boys and girls. This year's tournament
included one previous winner in Bobby Park of Lake Elmo, MN but missing another in Anni Heck of
Eagan, MN.
The Girls' division featured a new winner this year without the chance for a repeat due to the absence of
Heck. That champion would be Camille Kuznik of Orono, MN who shot a 2-over (74) to win by a
commanding four strokes over runner-up Aayushi Sarkar of Woodbury, MN. Third place went to Sophia
Yeomans of Red Wing, MN who finished at 10-over (82), falling eight strokes behind the winner Kuznik.
Bobby Park would fall short in the Boys' division as he hoped to repeat like few have before. Park
finished runner-up with a solid score of 2-under (70) but it was not enough to match Matthew Garside of
Vadnais Heights, MN who posted a 4-under (68) and the low round of the day. Park was coming off a
Players' Tour Tournament of Champions victory at Cragun’s Dutch Legacy but could not do enough to up
end Garside's great round. Rounding out the medalists for the boys' division in third was Jack Evans of
East Gull Lake, MN scoring a very respectable 1-over (73).
Alexa Filipiak of Elk River, MN and Anson Kuznik of Orono, MN are your 2015 Warrior Cup Champions in
the older 16-18 Age Division. The pair defeated some of the elite golfers in the state in a stroke play
event at Chaska Town Course to wrap up the Junior Tour season. It was a hot, muggy day on the course
with some showers in the early morning but there was no delay.
In the Girls' division, Filipiak defeated Jordan Wurm of Buffalo, MN and Abigail Brinkman of Jackson, MN
by one stroke scoring an 84. Wurm and Brinkman had a scorecard playoff to settle the second and third
place spots and on the sixth handicap hole, Wurm birdied while Brinkman had a bogey solidifying Wurm
as the runner-up. As far as the Boys' division, Kuznik shot a very good score of even par 72 beating Joey
Park of Lake Elmo, MN by one stroke. There was another playoff on the Boys' side between Stefan
Nelson of Eden Prairie, MN and Matthew Gregg of Bemidji, MN to determine the final medalist. The
playoff was on Hole 18 and Nelson prevailed over Gregg to claim the third place trophy.

The Players Tour Player of the Year will be awarded to one boy and one girl following completion of
play at the 2015 Tournament of Champions. Points at the Tournament of Champions will be awarded
to the 1st through 20th place finishes in the boys division and 1st through 10th place finishes in the
girls division. Points will be split for ties at all Minnesota PGA Players Tour events and the
Tournament of Champions. Any score posted as a With-Draw (WD) – (Without good reason), No-
Show (NS) and No-Card (NC) will automatically make the junior ineligible for Player of the Year. Any
junior disqualified (DQ) for a Code of Conduct violation will also be ineligible for Player of the Year.
The Bad Pants Open is a one day event including a 9-hole PGA Member – Special Olympics
Athlete Pro-Am in the morning followed by an 18-hole Charity event in the afternoon
benefiting both Special Olympics Minnesota and the Minnesota Section PGA Foundation. This
will be on Tuesday, September 15th, 2015 at Medina Golf & Country Club in Medina, MN.
In addition to the golf activities, for the first time in the history of the Bad Pants Open, the
Minnesota Section PGA, Special Olympics Minnesota, and FOX9 will be teaming up with Mall
of America’s own House of Comedy to present “The Roast of Ian Leonard.” This will be an
event poking fun at the star of the night, FOX9 Chief Meteorologist Ian Leonard, who has
been gracious enough to let us watch him take a verbal beating at our expense. It will be held
at Mall of America; more specifically Level 4 East within the mall on September 10th with the
show beginning at 7:30pm. Rick Bronson’s House of Comedy has many live, stand-up
comedians that have been featured on Leno, Letterman, Kimmel, Conan, The Daily Show,
Comedy Central and other prominent comedic shows. Live auction and ticket sales will go to
support Special Olympics Minnesota, tickets are only $15! Purchase tickets here
As of September 1st, 2015, the fifth annual Ian Leonard’s Bad Pants Open Online Auction has
been live, and all items on the website are available for purchase! Do not miss out on all the
great packages available that include autographed memorabilia, golf course foursomes,
travel discounts, and more!
