The first three letters in fundraising spell FUN! And eventscan be a lot of fun <strong>for</strong> organisers and participants alike.Hints and tipsHere are some pointers to help you plan afundraising event.l Make sure you allow enough time to plan and organiseyour event.l Fix <strong>the</strong> date and time of <strong>the</strong> event.l Tell your local <strong>RSPCA</strong> branch or <strong>the</strong> national Societyabout your event – call <strong>the</strong> fundraising team on:0300 123 0342l Draw up a list of jobs.l If you can, find a volunteer <strong>for</strong> each of <strong>the</strong> jobs.l Make sure your idea is legal – apply <strong>for</strong> any necessarylicences, permissions and insurance.l For some events, written permission from <strong>the</strong> <strong>RSPCA</strong> maybe required – contact <strong>the</strong> fundraising team if you are unsure.l Make sure what you are proposing to do is safe – <strong>the</strong><strong>RSPCA</strong> cannot accept any liability <strong>for</strong> accidents.l Publicise your event thoroughly:l put up postersl tell your friends and work colleaguesl tell your local newspaper and radio station.Did you know?l The <strong>RSPCA</strong> is <strong>the</strong> world’s oldest and largest animalwelfare charity.l There are more than 170 local <strong>RSPCA</strong> branches acrossEngland and Wales, as well as <strong>the</strong> national Society.l All <strong>RSPCA</strong> branches are separately registered charities.l Most <strong>RSPCA</strong> branches are staffed largely by volunteers.l <strong>RSPCA</strong> branches are responsible <strong>for</strong> more than 70 animalcentres and clinics, and 10 animal welfare centres.l The <strong>RSPCA</strong> receives no government funding and reliestotally on public support.l The national Society runs 23 animal centres and clinicsand four animal hospitals.l Every year more than 1.5 million calls are receivedby <strong>the</strong> <strong>RSPCA</strong>’s national cruelty and advice line. <strong>Fundraising</strong> ideasTo raise £5–£15l Raise £10 from £1. Make things cheaply and sell <strong>the</strong>m.You could:l craft birthday or Christmas cards from scraps of materiall make fridge magnetsl bake cakes or sweetsl grow fruit, vegetables or flowers from seedl hold a sale of good second-hand books and home-madebook marks.l Buy and sell charity items on eBay – find out more on:pages.ebay.co.uk/community/charity.l Walk instead of catching a bus, train or taxi – and donate<strong>the</strong> money you would have spent.l Give up chocolate <strong>for</strong> a week and donate <strong>the</strong>money instead.l Host a coffee morning – it could feature a quiz or araffle too.To raise £50–£150 plusl Take part in a sponsored event, <strong>for</strong> example:l compete in a marathon or fun runl hold a sponsored slim, headshave or silence – <strong>the</strong> ideasare endless.l Hold a silent auction – where items <strong>for</strong> auction are laidout toge<strong>the</strong>r with a piece of paper on which everyonewrites down <strong>the</strong>ir bid.l Hold a promise auction – where items are donated, or‘promised’, e.g. babysitting or a meal in a local restaurant,and <strong>the</strong>n bid on.l Host a wine and cheese evening.We have factsheets covering <strong>the</strong>se events – andmany more. Give aprize to <strong>the</strong> winner.l Hold a pet sweepstake in your office – call <strong>the</strong> fundraisingteam <strong>for</strong> one of our sweepstake <strong>for</strong>ms. There are so manyways to help us…l Organise a fundraising event with friends or colleagues –<strong>the</strong>re are many helpful tips and suggestions in this brochure.l Recycle empty ink jet cartridges via Jet Tec – <strong>the</strong> <strong>RSPCA</strong>receives £1 <strong>for</strong> every ink jet cartridge you recycle. And youwill be helping <strong>the</strong> environment too.
