And eventscan be a lot of fun for organisers and participants alike.Hints and tipsHere are some pointers to help you plan afundraising event.l Make sure you allow enough time to plan and organiseyour event.l Fix the date and time of the event.l Tell your local RSPCA branch or the national Societyabout your event – call the fundraising team on:0300 123 0342l Draw up a list of jobs.l If you can, find a volunteer for each of the jobs.l Make sure your idea is legal – apply for any necessarylicences, permissions and insurance.l For some events, written permission from the RSPCA maybe required – contact the fundraising team if you are unsure.l Make sure what you are proposing to do is safe – theRSPCA cannot accept any liability for accidents.l Publicise your event thoroughly:l put up postersl tell your friends and work colleaguesl tell your local newspaper and radio station.Did you know?l The RSPCA is the world’s oldest and largest animalwelfare charity.l There are more than 170 local RSPCA branches acrossEngland and Wales, as well as the national Society.l All RSPCA branches are separately registered charities.l Most RSPCA branches are staffed largely by volunteers.l RSPCA branches are responsible for more than 70 animalcentres and clinics, and 10 animal welfare centres.l The RSPCA receives no government funding and reliestotally on public support.l The national Society runs 23 animal centres and clinicsand four animal hospitals.l Every year more than 1.5 million calls are receivedby the RSPCA’s national cruelty and advice line. Fundraising ideasTo raise £5–£15l Raise £10 from £1. Make things cheaply and sell them.You could:l craft birthday or Christmas cards from scraps of materiall make fridge magnetsl bake cakes or sweetsl grow fruit, vegetables or flowers from seedl hold a sale of good second-hand books and home-madebook marks.l Buy and sell charity items on eBay – find out more on:pages.ebay.co.uk/community/charity.l Walk instead of catching a bus, train or taxi – and donatethe money you would have spent.l Give up chocolate for a week and donate themoney instead.l Host a coffee morning – it could feature a quiz or araffle too.To raise £50–£150 plusl Take part in a sponsored event, for example:l compete in a marathon or fun runl hold a sponsored slim, headshave or silence – the ideasare endless.l Hold a silent auction – where items for auction are laidout together with a piece of paper on which everyonewrites down their bid.l Hold a promise auction – where items are donated, or‘promised’, e.g. babysitting or a meal in a local restaurant,and then bid on.l Host a wine and cheese evening.We have factsheets covering these events – andmany more. Please contact the fundraising teamfor copies.To raise £15–£50l Ask us for a collection box and throw in yourloose change.l Produce quiz sheets – charge £1 for each sheet andgive a prize to the winner.l Hold a boot sale to sell unwanted items.l Hold a raffle at work.l Play guess the baby – ask colleagues to provide picturesof themselves as babies and charge £1 per guess. Give aprize to the winner.l Hold a pet sweepstake in your office – call the fundraisingteam for one of our sweepstake forms. Ask people toguess the name of the winning dog for £1 a guess.
