<strong>The</strong> <strong>Canadian</strong> <strong>Playground</strong> <strong>Safety</strong> Institute’s<strong>Playground</strong> Inspector Certification Program<strong>Playground</strong> Inspector Certification<strong>The</strong> <strong>Canadian</strong> Parks and <strong>Recreation</strong> Association(CPRA) offers the <strong>Canadian</strong> Certified <strong>Playground</strong>Inspector certification program through the <strong>Canadian</strong><strong>Playground</strong> <strong>Safety</strong> Institute (CPSI). Four-day sessionsare being offered by CPSI in various regions acrossCanada for participants who wish to complete theplayground inspector certification training.Only individuals who complete the CPSI <strong>The</strong>ory andCPSI Practical courses and achieve passing grades onboth exams are considered to be <strong>Canadian</strong> Certified <strong>Playground</strong> Inspectors. During these sessions, each of the twocourses will consist of 1 1/2 days training and a two hour exam.Session locations, dates and course fees are listed on the registration form on the back of this flyer.<strong>The</strong> <strong>Canadian</strong> Certified <strong>Playground</strong> Inspector status is valid for a three year period and can be renewed by completinga recertification exam either online or in the classroom.<strong>The</strong>ory and Practical Course<strong>The</strong> <strong>The</strong>ory course helps individuals thoroughly understand the <strong>Canadian</strong> playspace safety standard from CAN/CSA Z614 “Children’s Playspaces and Equipment” and the Practical course teaches participants how to conduct ahands-on inspection/audit of a playspace.Individuals who only want to take either the <strong>The</strong>ory course or Practical course are welcome to attend these sessions.However, the <strong>The</strong>ory course is a prerequisite for the Practical course. Practical course participants must havecompleted the <strong>The</strong>ory course during the first two-days of these sessions, or within the preceding 12 months eitherat another classroom location or online.Who should take these courses?This training is designed for owner/operators, health inspectors, daycare staff, maintenance/public works staff forschools, municipalities, housing complexes and other areas that contain public playspaces, private inspectors andcontractors, manufacturers, installers, parks staff, insurance agents, etc.Are you due for recertification?Inspectors with recently, or soon to be, expired certifications, can renew by taking a Practical course to brush up ontheir knowledge and then writing the classroom recertification exam.
