Funds must be used for new or expandedactivities and not for exist<strong>in</strong>g programs and services.Some examples:▪ Develop<strong>in</strong>g an action plan to become a Community <strong>in</strong> <strong>motion</strong>▪ Increas<strong>in</strong>g the awareness among citizens of the health and personal benefitsof active liv<strong>in</strong>g▪ Remov<strong>in</strong>g barriers to physical activity▪ Develop<strong>in</strong>g ways to reach <strong>in</strong>active groups of people▪ Provid<strong>in</strong>g new or expanded opportunities for active liv<strong>in</strong>g▪ Start<strong>in</strong>g a Workplace <strong>in</strong> <strong>motion</strong> <strong>in</strong>itiative▪ Creat<strong>in</strong>g local policy, plans, and programs for physical activityGrant fund<strong>in</strong>g can not be used for:• Capital <strong>in</strong>vestment <strong>in</strong> the construction or development of facilities• Deficit reduction• School curriculum – although schools may be used for communityprograms and activities, school-based activities that occur with<strong>in</strong> a regularschool day will not be funded• Political or religious activities• Fundrais<strong>in</strong>g events• Donation to another organization• Food related expenditures greater than 10 per cent of your grant; thesewould <strong>in</strong>clude items such as food expenses for banquets, d<strong>in</strong>ners,celebrations, meet<strong>in</strong>gs, etc.• Property taxes, <strong>in</strong>surance, utilities, office rentals• Alcoholic beverages or tobacco products• Cash prizes• Exist<strong>in</strong>g programs or services• Competitive sport development and/or tra<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g• Team or group travel• Team uniforms• Groups with closed membership3


How much fund<strong>in</strong>g is available?Applicants may apply for up to 50 per cent of total project costs to a maximum of$3,000 (three thousand dollars). Applicants must show match<strong>in</strong>g funds <strong>in</strong> theamount that they have applied for.
