The Rt Hon Lord Mayor Alan Jarrow at the <strong>Livery</strong> Showcase Event March <strong>2015</strong> at Barber-Surgeons’ Hall talksto artist Jane Churchill about her exhibition and work with Mulberry School for Girls on the <strong>Livery</strong> Schools LinkWorld War 1 Commemoration Project.<strong>Livery</strong> Governors are in place at all four supportedprimary schools (Chair of the Governing Body attwo schools). The Head teachers of the primaryschools are invited to various Company functions,including an annual lunch with the Primary SchoolsCommittee to share experiences and ideas.The Company sponsors a placement scheme inthe Textile Colleges to place weave graduates intothe woven textile industry. [Co-sponsored by theClothworkers Company].The Company has recently been approached bythe City of London Academy, which has created a“Weavers House” in honour of the Company.WHEELWRIGHTSWe award a prize annually to a student at Barts andthe London School of Medicine and Dentistry, whohas made both clinical and practical observation ina particular field associated with handicap.There are two Wheelwright apprentices currentlytraining under the <strong>Livery</strong> Companies endorsedapprenticeship scheme. Both apprentices travelledto Colonial Williamsburg for three weeks in Spring<strong>2015</strong> as part of their training, their travel costs metby the Company‘s Charity. There is an aspiration inthe Company to extend their support for educationinto schools and since the charitable objective of theCompany’s Charity centres on improving mobility,there could be scope for funding projects whichsupport mobility in its broadest sense.WOOLMENThe Worshipful Company of Woolmen’s charitabletrust regularly gives to organisations connectedwith the wool industry, the City of London, the LordMayor’s appeal, HM Armed Forces charities andother good causes.In particular, the Trust supports students studyingfashion technology, textile and fashion designmanagement, technical innovation and design,manufacture of wool products, fashion designmarketing and promotion, research into wool,and research work into appropriate veterinaryprocedures. Currently the Trust is supporting fivestudents at Heriot Watt University; five students atHuddersfeld College; five students at the ScottishRural University; two students at Herriot Wattand two students at Harper Adams.
