The Trust continues to support shearingcompetitions at the major UK agricultural shows -the Royal Ulster, the Royal Bath and West, the GreatYorkshire, the Royal Highland and the Royal Welshshows. The trust provides medals, cash prizes andtraining vouchers for junior, intermediate, seniorand young farmers categories, which benefit over50 competitors and have helped to encourage youngpeople into shearing. The Trust’s major fundraisingevent is the annual Sheep Drive across LondonBridge every autumn where about 600 Freemen ofthe City exercise their ancient rights to drive sheepacross London Bridge.WORLD TRADERSWe give annual awards to a number of schools atprize-giving ceremonies and the Sir Roger CorkMemorial Scholarship is awarded, after interview,specifically to a pupil from St Dunstan’s School inrecognition of an all round awareness of worldtrade. All prize-winners are invited to attend theCompany’s Tacitus Lecture held annually in the Cityof London.All schools linked to the Company have a memberof the Company assigned to them to act as a liaisonofficer and to report progress back to the Company’sCharity and Education Committee.The Company considers applications fromeducational establishments and organisations forfunding a variety of projects.YOUNG FREEMENThe Society has sponsored prizes in the past forstudents at the City of London Freemen’s Schooland the City of London Girls School. The courtare reviewing all prize awards and exploringopportunities for the future. This may include thepossibility that in the future, a small number ofstudents from one of the City of London Academysponsored schools could accompany us on ourLord Mayor’s Show float which we have each year. Afuture research project is being planned.
