Industrial, Switchboard andDEF66-13 Shunts880 SeriesShunt leadsWhere ammeter indicators are ordered withthe shunts, leads 1 metre long, totalresistance 25mΩ should be used.Other lengths are available to order.ConstructionHighest quality materials, rugged design andadvanced manufacturing techniques are usedthroughout. The substantial solid brass endblocks have conservatively rated contactsurface areas and fixing hole dimensions toIEC51: (BS89): For maximum long termstability and strength, copper manganeseresistance elements are both rivetted andsoldered into slots in the end blocks. Above2000A, end blocks are multibladed. Forcurrent ratings below 30A model 881 basemounted shunts are supplied as standardunless otherwise specified. For basemounted shunts up to 100A see our model829 range.InstallationFor maximum heat dissipation, mount shuntsin the horizontal plane, with the blade facingvertical. If the shunt is mounted in thevertical position the '+ positive' potentialterminal should be the lower or bottom onedue to the "Peltier" effect. Utilise the full endblock surface area. Ample ventilation shouldbe provided. Busbars should be adequatelyrated, clean and level, with a thin coat ofsilicone grease applied to the contact surfacearea. Use M10 (3/8in) fixing bolts with model882 and M12 (1/2in) for all other shunts.Use flat and tension washers under the nutsand tighten fully.Insulated mounting blocks are available formodels 882, 883.DEF 66-13 ShuntsShunts with metric threads and dimensionsare fully compliant with and approved toDEF 66–13 and have a silver soldered endblock and painted resistance elements. They are supplied with removable solder tagson the potential terminals as additionallyrequired by MoD (Naval). Consult factory formore details.WarningShunts are uninsulated and protectionagainst accidental contact may be necessaryin order to comply with Health & Safetyregulations.Mounting BlocksInsulated mounting blocks available for 882 and 883 sizesShuntsWeb: www.crompton-instruments.com • Email: crompton.info@tycoelectronics.com 2002
