<strong>WNBA</strong> CARESThrough <strong>WNBA</strong> Cares, the <strong>WNBA</strong> is deeply <strong>com</strong>mitted to creatingprograms that improve the quality of life for all people, with aspecial emphasis on programs that promote a healthy lifestyleand positive body image, increase breast and women’s healthawareness, support youth and family development, and focuson education.<strong>WNBA</strong> FIT<strong>WNBA</strong> Fit encourages girls andwomen of all ages to learnmore about their bodies and theimportance of physical fitnessthrough programs related to health, fitness, nutritionand self-esteem. Programming inspires girls and womento get started on “being fit” through small changesin their daily routine. The content of the programis <strong>com</strong>municated and delivered through a team ofspokespeople and national and local events.GO RED FOR WOMENThe <strong>WNBA</strong> and the American Heart Association haveformed an alliance to promote the Go Red for Womencampaign. GRFW encourages women to learn more aboutheart health, and raises awareness of the risks of heartdisease in women.BREAST HEALTH AWARENESSFor twelve years, the <strong>WNBA</strong> BreastHealth Awareness program hasfocused on generating awarenessand educating women about breastcancer in addition to raising fundsfor the initiative. The <strong>WNBA</strong> and its teams have raisedover $2 million to aid in the fight against breast cancer.<strong>WNBA</strong> GreenThe <strong>WNBA</strong> is <strong>com</strong>mitted to a long-term environmentalplan through the implementation of sustainablebusiness practices and procedures that decrease theleague’s carbon footprint and contribute to a clean,healthy environment. The <strong>WNBA</strong> Greening Initiative is aninnovative program designed to reduce the environmentalimpact of the league’s operations and events.READ TO ACHIEVERead to Achieve is a year-round,league-wide initiative supportedby NBA, <strong>WNBA</strong> and NBA D-Leagueteams that promotes the values ofreading and online literacy and encourages families andadults to read regularly with young children. The programincludes special reading time-outs, the donation of booksand literacy materials to schools and <strong>com</strong>munity basedorganizations, and the creation of Reading and LearningCenters and Reading Corners throughout the world.JR. <strong>WNBA</strong>By stressing fundamentalskill development, teamwork,sportsmanship and positive adultparticipation, the Jr. <strong>WNBA</strong> aims to develop a life-longpassion for the game of basketball by providing a supportstructure that not only encourages participation, but alsomakes the game fun and rewarding for players, coaches,officials and parents. Programming has been developed toencourage girls ages 8-14 to get started on “being fit”through small changes in their daily regimens, with aspecial focus on developing self-esteem. The content ofthe program will be <strong>com</strong>municated through a “team” ofspokespeople at local events and promotions.Storm in the CommunityThe Seattle Storm believes that success is not measured solely by wins on thebasketball court. Giving back to the <strong>com</strong>munity is also a high priority, and the Stormhas established a strong connection with its fans throughout the region.The team aims to serve as a powerful <strong>com</strong>munity advocate with a focus on literacy,health and fitness, support for women and girls and youth basketball. The Stormstrives to strengthen the bond between players and fans by creating meaningful,personal experiences and to enrich its support of local organizations through effective<strong>com</strong>munity partnerships.Recognized as one of the <strong>WNBA</strong>’s most active teams in the <strong>com</strong>munity, the Stormis <strong>com</strong>mitted to serving others through the team’s <strong>com</strong>munity initiatives.Tickets for KidsOne of the Storm’s signature<strong>com</strong>munity initiatives isTickets for Kids, a charitabledonation program that allowsindividuals and corporations topurchase Storm tickets for localnonprofit organizations that serve children in the PugetSound area. Through Tickets for Kids, children have theopportunity to experience the <strong>WNBA</strong> firsthand and to beexposed to positive female role models.Jr. Storm programThe Jr. Storm program,in conjunction with theJr. <strong>WNBA</strong>, believes that team lessons learned on andoff the court are useful in building relationships atschool, home and work. By stressing fundamental skilldevelopment, teamwork, sportsmanship and positiveadult participation, the Jr. Storm program works withcoaches, parents and youth to foster a life-long passionfor basketball and encourages participation in thegame by providing tools that make the game fun andrewarding.
