18Local AuthorsWe are fortunate in the village to have several published authors, ofwhom, two currently have books on sale.1Rose Beer’s book “My Mother Said.....” is acollection of her poems and reflections from herchildhood through to the present including herunrequited passion for a now retired <strong>Eastry</strong> GPand thoughts about Christmas.It was launched at the Craft Fair in October andis now selling well at Bickers and the Pharmacy.It only costs £4 and would make an idealChristmas present.All profits from the sale of the book will go tothe Village Hall Fund.Zsuzsanna Snarey has also produced a bookof her personal memoirs.At the end of the Second World War Hungarybecame a Russian ‘protectorate’ without theconsent of the people. Communism was establishedby stealth and it was not possible to leave thecountry legally with a passport. The only way toescape was to cross the border on foot which wasboth illegal and very dangerous.....In the late autumn of 1948 after our failedattempt at escaping I lay paralysed by polio in anisolation ward while my mother was in prison.After the Hungarian Revolution of October 1956was crushed by Russia and all hope of freedomvanished, thousands of people fled their homes tocross the Austrian border. My mother realisedthat she now had an opportunity to leaveHungary...This book is the result of talks given at the <strong>Eastry</strong> and District Open Grouplast year and for the Sandwich Library Guild at the Guild Hall in May 2013where interest was expressed about the personal story of the author. Itis available at <strong>Eastry</strong> Chiropody and at Bickers and also as an e-bookfrom Kindle. Soon it will be available on Amazon and also in book shops.
