content providers’ interpretation of the resources and understanding of the users’ interests andlevel of knowledge. This ignores the diversity and heterogeneity of the users. A resource likea learning object can be considered differently in different contexts. A web page aboutAustralian bushfires may have anchors to pages related to biology but not economy becausethe content provider is a biologist. From these two problems, two main needs emerge:(1) The need for feedback about the usage of the repositories. This is becauseadministrators and content providers have a limited knowledge of the repository andthe needs of the users whereas that knowledge is important for doing their job:maintaining, updating and improving access facilities as well as resources.(2) The need for assistance in user navigation based on the experience of users instead ofadministrators or content providers. The LEOPARD project (Learning EnvirOnment Platform for Agent-based RepositoryDiscovery) [11] aims at addressing these needs. This project originates from Edouard Lim’spropositions and it is conducted at the School of Computer Science and Software Engineering- Monash University. The LEOPARD project is at its beginning and this Master’s Thesiswork is part of it.MSc EMOOSE Thesis – http://www.emn.fr/EMOOSE 8
