18East-West Center Association (EWCA)Alumni Scholarship FundThe East-West Center Association (EWCA) beganawarding Alumni Scholarships in 2002 to make East-West Center’s transformational educational programsaccessible to all qualified students, regardless of theireconomic resources. Scholarships are awarded tograduate degree students based on academic excellence,financial need, leadership potential, and a strongcommitment to community service and involvementwith EWCA. These stand-alone scholarships havehelped to increase the number of EWC students, andprovide supplemental funding to graduate degree fellowswho need additional support for travel to the Center andfor other personal expenses beyond the graduate degreefellowship.EWCA Alumni Scholarships are created from threesources of funds:■■■Contributions to the EWC Foundation’s annualcampaign,Investment income from the Alumni EndowmentFund, andProceeds from the Silent Auction and InternationalBazaar at the annual EWC dinner.ALUMNI ANNUAL SCHOLARSHIP FUNDAll alumni and friends of the EWC are welcome todesignate their gifts donated during the annual campaignto the Alumni Annual Scholarship Fund. Because this isnot an endowment, gifts to the fund are available forimmediate use.ALUMNI ENDOWMENT FUNDEWCA alumni created the Alumni Endowment Fund asa legacy to help future generations of students share theEWC experience. Contributions can be made in theform of cash, bequest/trust, appreciated securities, or lifeinsurance. This fund includes all gifts from alumni whodesignate their donations to the endowment. Funds areplaced in the EWC Foundation’s Endowment Fund, andheld in perpetuity. Income from the investment ofthese funds is used to fund scholarships.INVESTING IN THE FUTURE:SCHOLARSHIPS CHANGE LIVESYour gift makes a real difference in the lives of East-WestCenter students to prepare them for leadership in theAsia Pacific region.
