Established by the US Congress in1960, the Center serves as a resource for information andanalysis on critical issues of common concern, bringingpeople together to exchange views, build expertise anddevelop policy options.Officially known as the Center for Cultural and Technicalinterchange between East and West, the Center is a US-basedinstitution for public diplomacy with international governance,staffing, students and participants.The Center is an independent, public, nonprofitorganization with funding from the US government, andadditional support provided by private agencies, individuals,foundations, corporations and governments in the region.The Center’s 21-acre Honolulu campus, adjacent to theUniversity of Hawai‘i at Mānoa, is located midway betweenAsia and the US mainland and features research, residentialand international conference facilities. The Center’sWashington, D.C. office focuses on preparing the UnitedStates for an era of growing Asia Pacific prominence.
