Aberdeen Global – American Opportunities FundThe current investment objective of Aberdeen Global – American Opportunities Fund is "long-term capital growthprimarily through investment in the equities and equity-related securities of companies registered in the United States ofAmerica, or in companies which derive a significant proportion of their revenues or profits from American operations orhave a significant proportion of their assets there. The base currency of the Fund is US Dollars".Your Board of Directors propose to amend this objective.The new investment objective will be "long-term total return to be achieved by investing at least two-thirds of the Fund’sassets in equities and equity-related securities of companies with their registered office in the United States of America;and/or, of companies which have the preponderance of their business activities in the United States of America; and/or,of holding companies that have the preponderance of their assets in companies with their registered office in the UnitedStates of America. The base currency of the Fund is US Dollars."Your Board of Directors also propose to change the name of the sub-fund.Your Board of Directors propose to change the name of the sub-fund from Aberdeen Global – American OpportunitiesFund to Aberdeen Global – American Equity Fund.The changes are being made to ensure that the name and objective of the sub-fund reflects current Swiss guidelines onfund names and investment objectives and to provide consistency across all of the sub-funds. It is not intended that thenature of the sub-fund be materially altered as a result of these changes.As detailed in the attached letter dated 21 July 2008, Aberdeen Asset Managers Limited is being replaced by AberdeenAsset Management Inc as investment adviser to this sub-fund with effect from 1 October 2008.Shareholders should note that the way that the sub-fund is managed, the base currency of the sub-fund and the riskfactors affecting the sub-fund will remain the same.
2. Aberdeen Global – Asia Pacific FundThe current investment objective of Aberdeen Global – Asia Pacific Fund is "to pursue long term total return primarilythrough investment in equities and equity-related securities of corporations which are registered in Asia-Pacific countries(excluding Japan), or companies which derive a significant proportion of their revenues or profits from Asia-Pacificcountries (excluding Japan), or have a significant proportion of their assets there. The base currency of the Fund is USDollars."Your Board of Directors propose to amend this objective.The new investment objective will be "long-term total return to be achieved by investing at least two-thirds of the Fund’sassets in equities and equity-related securities of companies with their registered office in Asia Pacific countries(excluding Japan); and/or, of companies which have the preponderance of their business activities in Asia Pacificcountries (excluding Japan); and/or, of holding companies that have the preponderance of their assets in companies withtheir registered office in Asia Pacific countries (excluding Japan). Such securities mayinclude convertibles, up to an absolute maximum of 25% of the Fund, and also include floating rate securities, assetbackedsecurities, perpetual securities, preferred stocks and warrants. The base currency of the Fund is US Dollars".Your Board of Directors propose to amend this objective.The new investment objective will be "long-term total return to be achieved by investing at least two-thirds of the Fund’sassets in Debt andDebt-Related Securities issued by governments, supranational institutions or government-relatedbodies that are domiciled in Asian countries; and/or, Debt and Debt-Related Securities issued by companies that havetheir registered office in an Asian country; and/or, issued by companies which have the preponderance of their businessactivities in an Asian country; and/or, issued by holding companies that have the preponderance of their assets incompanies with their registered office in an Asian country.The Fund may also invest in Debt and Debt-Related Securities of corporations or supra-national institutions which Debtand Debt-Related Securities are denominated in Asian currencies and other Transferable Securities issued bygovernments or government-related bodies that are domiciled in Asian countries. Such securities may include, but arenot limited to convertibles, floating rate securities, asset-backed securities, perpetual securities, preferred stocks andwarrants up to an absolute maximum of 25% of the Fund.The Fund may utilise techniques and instruments for hedging and/or investment purposes, efficient portfoliomanagement and/or to manage foreign exchange risks, subject to the conditions and within the limits laid down by theCSSF. In general, these techniques and instruments include, but are not limited to, securities lending and reverserepurchase transactions (as described in Appendix A) and forward foreign currency contracts.Without limiting the generality of the foregoing, the Investment Adviser may alter the currency exposure of the Fund,solely through the use of derivative contracts (without buying or selling underlying Transferable Securities or currencies).Performance may be strongly influenced by movements in currency rates because the Fund may have exposure to aparticular currency that is different to the value of the securities denominated in that currency held by the Fund.Furthermore, the Fund's portfolio may be fully or partially hedged back to the Base Currency if, in the opinion of theInvestment Adviser, this is believed to be appropriate.Regulations in the markets in which the Fund invests may require or limit hedging or other use of financial derivativeinstruments, either explicitly or as a result of the Investment Adviser managing resultant risk.
