ForewordThe first edition of “<strong>Sunflower</strong> <strong>Production</strong> and MarketingExtension Bulletin 25” was published in 1975.This publication provided general information forgrowers, seedsmen, processors, marketing agenciesand Extension personnel. Revised editions followed in1978, 1985 and 1994. Interest and knowledge aboutsunflower production and marketing in the U.S. hasincreased greatly in the past 30 years. Marketing andprocessing channels have stabilized and have becomefairly familiar to growers since 1985, but pest problemshave shifted and new research information hasbecome available to assist in production decisions.This publication is a revision of the “<strong>Sunflower</strong> <strong>Production</strong>and Marketing Bulletin” published in 1994.The purpose is to update information and provide aproduction and pest management guide for sunflowergrowers. This revised publication is directed primarilyto the commercial production of sunflower, not to marketingand processing. It will attempt to give specificguidelines and recommendations on production practices,pest identification and pest management, basedon current information.unless otherwise specified. This publication containscertain recommendations for pesticides thatare labeled ONLY for <strong>North</strong> <strong>Dakota</strong>. The users ofany pesticide designated for a state label must havea copy of the state label in their possession at thetime of application. <strong>State</strong> labels can be obtainedfrom agricultural chemical dealers or distributors.USE PESTICIDES ONLY AS LABELED.AcknowledgementsThe editor is indebted to the contributors for writingsections of this publication.
