RECYCLINGPlease continue to recycle at the drop-offsites, even if you hire someone to pick upyour household trash at the curb. Includerecycling when you negotiatea pick-up contract.Reducing waste, reusing, andrecycling are some of themost powerful ways that you can protectthe environment and save money. Go tothe N. C. Division of EnvironmentalAssistance and Outreach for moreinformation on reducing solid waste.http://portal.ncdenr.org/web/deaoWHAT CAN BE RECYCLEDThe following items are accepted at theconvenience sites. Follow the directions ofthe site attendant.Household <strong>Trash</strong>• All plastic bottles & jugs• Cardboard• Aluminum and steel cans• Newspaper, magazines, catalogs• Mail, office paper• Paperboard (cereal, shoe boxes)• Paper bags, phone booksAll of these items can be placed into therecycling containers located at each ofthe drop-off sites. These are sorted later ata materials recovery facility. Cardboardgoes into a separate container at theEngelhard site. Follow the directions of thesite attendant.Furnishings and constructionand demolition debrisYard waste, pallets, stumps, cement,and bricksPlace into the yard waste/debris areas atthe Engelhard and Swan Quarter sites.This debris is not accepted at the Ponzer,Fairfield or Scranton sites. Please removeall leaves from bags.Scrap tiresAll sizes are accepted at each of the solidwaste drop-off sites. Please remove fromthe rim. Contact the county if you know ofany tire stockpiles or illegal dumpsitescontaining tires.Appliances and scrap metalsPlease recycle all metals including majorappliances, small appliances, bed frames,lawn equipment, bikes, tools, car parts,pipes, sheet metal, siding, etc.Used motor oilPour into the oil containers. Waste oilincludes motor oil, transmission fluid,hydraulic fluid, diesel fuel, and lubricatingfluid. No cooking oil, mixtures of oil andwater, pesticides, or any other hazardousmaterials.Oil filtersPut into the filter collection barrels.Lead-acid batteriesElectronicsComputers, TV’s and all peripherals,telephones, printers, games, cords,rechargeable batteries, etc.GlassPut glass into the glass roll-off container.All colors can go together.
