ADVISORS, MENTORS, & KEY DATESAdvisors & MentorsThroughout this notebook we will refer to two very important people: the ISIPAdvisor, and the Project Mentor. The ISIP Advisor is a member of the GSA faculty (a teacher or administrator)who has agreed to advise you through the entire ISIP experience. The ISIP Advisor willhelp you with your ISIP proposal, will be in contact with you during your ISIPexperience, and will grade your final ISIP Project Notebook. Your ISIP Advisor willprobably not be your regular GSA advisor, but may be someone whose expertise andinterests are related to your ISIP project.Your Project Mentor is the person with whom you are interning or studying.Project Mentors have special experience or interests that qualify them to help you withyour project, or they may be professionals with whom you can do an to internship. For example, if a student spends two weeks working with a local architect or a carmechanic, the architect or the car mechanic should serve as the Project Mentor. In caseswhere a student is working on a project with a GSA teacher (for example, writing a novelunder Mrs. Thorpe), the teacher can serve as both the Project Mentor and the ISIPAdvisor.Project Mentors must be qualified to evaluate a student’s work or performance.Students who plan to stay with relatives during ISIP should understand that unless thatrelative is particularly qualified to serve as a Project Mentor, they will need to findsomeone else to serve in that role.Key datesOctober 25-26 th :Students receive ISIP NotebooksNovember 6 th and 8 th : Students sign up for ISIP AdvisorFriday, December 7:Wednesday, January 16:Friday, February 8:Due: ISIP proposal worksheet with parent signatureDue: Final ISIP proposal with parent signatureDue: Signed ISIP contract with attached finalproposalMonday, February 25 - Friday, March 7: ISIP 2008Monday, March 17: Due: Completed ISIP NotebookGeorge Stevens Academy: ISIP 2008 (revised 10/07) Page 02
