4-H HORSEMANSHIP/EQUITATIONJUDGE _____________________________________CLASS _____________________________________DATE _____________________________________Scoring: 0-100, with 70 denoting an Average PerformanceRun Content <strong>Score</strong>s: +Above Avg, ✔Average, – Below AvgMinor Faults: Break of gait at walk/trot or wrong lead up to 2strides; Over/under turn 1/8 of prescribed turn; Over cueing withreins and/or legs; Reins too long /short or uneven; Failure of horseto stand still at end of pattern; Imprecise pattern work.Major Faults: Break of gait at a canter, out of lead, or missing leador diagonal for more than2 strides; not stopping within 10 ft ofdesignated area; incorrect gait or break of gait at walk/trot formore than 2 strides; obvious looking for lead or diagonal.Over/under more than 1/8 of turn, but not more than 1/4 turn.Severe Faults: Blatant disobedience (kick out; buck; throwing head)loss of iron or rein; touching horse or saddle; missing lead ordiagonal more than 2 strides. Failure to follow pattern correctly,including failure to ever execute correct lead or gait where calledfor; working on wrong sides of cones, or knocking over cone. Overturning more than 1/4 of prescribed turn.Zero <strong>Score</strong>: Failure to wear correct number, illegal use of hands onreins, excessive schooling, prohibited equipment.90-100: Excellent equitation, including body position and use of aids.Completes pattern accurately, quickly, smoothly and precisely;demonstrates a high level of professionalism.80-89: Above average rider that executes the pattern accurately as well ashaving correct equitation and use of aids. Excellent rider that commits aminor fault.70-79: Average pattern execution and average equitation; lackingadequate style and professional presentation to merit elevating to the nextscoring range. Above average rider that commits a minor fault.60-69: Below average pattern that lacks quickness or precision, or riderthat has obvious position faults that prevents effective equitation. Anaverage rider that commits two minor faults in the performance of thepattern.50-59: A rider that commits one major fault or multiple minor faults intheir performance .
