The new center willprovide long-term consultation <strong>and</strong> supportto child service agencies <strong>and</strong> tribes inNebraska, Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Michigan, Missouri,Minnesota, Ohio <strong>and</strong> Wisconsin. It will partner with state <strong>and</strong>tribal child welfare agencies to assess their inner workings <strong>and</strong>identify broad changes that could help them operate moreefficiently <strong>and</strong> effectively to serve families <strong>and</strong> children; identifyobstacles to helping families; build the capacity <strong>of</strong> state <strong>and</strong> tribalchild welfare systems; <strong>and</strong> work toward significant changes toimprove outcomes for children <strong>and</strong> families involved with thesesystem. The ultimate goal is to ensure all children have safe, stable<strong>and</strong> permanent homes. The objective <strong>of</strong> this project is todetermine how executive control relates to later functionaloutcomes, the next step toward clinical application. Espy’sresearch will elucidate the fundamental mechanisms that go awryin childhood psychopathology <strong>and</strong> identify precursors for use infuture work to tailor preventive interventions to those who st<strong>and</strong> tobenefit most.6AWARDS OF $3 MILLION OR MORE
