Welcome to the 2012 

Canadian Automobile Sport Clubs 

Annual Gala. 

At this evenings Celebration of Champions, 

48th Annual Gala, our community gathers 

together to recognize champions in three of our 

four competition divisions, Autoslalom, Road 

Racing, and Time Attack, as well as pay tribute to 

the outstanding service and dedication of our 

volunteers and officials. 

In 2012, as CASC-OR celebrates it’s 61st 

Anniversary in motorsports in Ontario, our three 

competition divisions, Autoslalom, Road Racing, 

and Time Attack, provided close and strong competition to hundreds of 

competitors in all of our provincial championship series. 

In addition to this, a full calendar of successful affiliated club events and series 

were organized by CASC-OR affiliated clubs all over the province. 

Our continued success could not be sustained without the financial 

investment of several of our long term sponsors and corporate partners who have 

continued their commitment to CASC-OR. We’ve been very fortunate to have 

attracted new sponsors who had expressed the wish to promote their product 

and services through access to the CASC-Ontario Region community. It is their 

contributions to the sport which enable us to offer the best motorsport 

competition value possible. 

The participation of hundreds and hundreds of dedicated volunteers deserve 

a heartfelt thanks from the competitors, for making CASC-OR competition safe 

and fun. We will be recognizing some of them tonight for significant contributions. 

And finally, without you, our competitors. Without you, there would be no 

competition, no events, no motorsport. This evening is about your efforts, your 

passion for the sport, and ultimately your victories. We applaud you, and the 

people who support you – your sponsors, your crews, and most of all your 

families – for your commitment to being on the track and competing. 

Have a safe and happy off-season, and we look forward to seeing all of you in 

the 2013 season.

V o l u n t e e r s 

Our associate clubs organize nearly fifty events a 

year, staffed and supported by their members. 

After months of effort by the club-appointed Race 

Organizer, Event Registrars organize entrants, crew 

and volunteers, as well as media, guests and 

spectators. They check driver eligibility, collect fees, 

and provide accurate entry information for Timing and 

Scoring, which relays results and communicates with 

Race Control. 

Meanwhile, paddock-area Scrutineers inspect 

vehicles and safety equipment; Grid Crew get drivers on 

track; Stewards resolve on-track driver issues while 

Judges of Fact observe adherence to rules. 

The Corner 

Marshalls, dressed in white and located at corners 

around the racetrack, communicate track and race 

information to the drivers through the use of flags and 

hand signals. They are also responsible for 

communicating with Race Control using phones or 

radios, and providing immediate response to incidents 

on the track. Training of these workers is provided at no charge by the marshalling 

clubs, CRCA, MCO and MMS. 

Pit Marshalls provide direction and safety services in 

the pit lane. Medical and Auxiliary Response Volunteers 

assist in the operation and smooth flow of the event, 

under the direction of Senior Race Officials. Medical 

volunteers must be trained Medical or Paramedical 

practitioners. Saturday nights feature Volunteer 

appreciation barbeques, often with prize draws. Annual 

Volunteer Incentive Awards and honorary trophies mark 

volunteer contributions to autosport in Ontario.

Volunteer Awards

The Elizabeth Dorey Award 

The Elizabeth Dorey Award is presented by 

Mosport and the British Empire Motor 

Club, to honour the volunteer worker 

whose efforts most reflect a steadfast 

commitment, tireless dedication, and 

sincere love for Motorsport. 

Race Division Rookie of the Year 

The Rookie of the Year Award honours the 

Race division’s top-scoring rookie driver. 

The Noone’s Trophy 

The Noone’s trophy was named for the 

patrons of the sport who operated 

Noone’s Motel, a popular meeting place 

for Mosport competitors of the 1960’s and 

1970’s. It is awarded to the top combined 

points scorer across all categories. 

Jonathan DeHaas Trophy 

The Jonathan DeHaas Trophy honours the 

RaceOntario Open Wheel Champion. 

Competitor of the Year Award 

The Competitor of the Year award honours 

a member who is a force to be reckoned 

with in competition events while 

contributing to Ontario Motorsport to the 

benefit of their peers. 

The Muriel Knap Trophy 

This trophy was donated by Muriel Knap, 

who herself was a tirelessly dedicated 

proponent of Canadian Motorsport. 


The award recognizes the lady competitor 

in circuit racing who exemplifies 

sportsmanship, ability and charm. 

The President’s Cup 

The President’s Cup is awarded to the 

Regional Sportsperson of the Year. 

The Wilson Trophy 

First presented at the 1959 AGM by 

President Harold A. Wilson, the trophy is 

awarded to the region’s most active 

competitor across CASC Ontario’s 

disciplines. 

The Wayne Kelly Memorial Trophy 

This award is named in honour of Wayne 

Kelly, who was respected among his 

competitors as a winning driver and 

constructor. The Kelly Memorial is 

awarded to the Ontario region club 

member who has brought special 

recognition and prestige to Ontario 

Motorsport. 

The A. B. Dick Award 

The best organized RaceOntario series 

event. 

The Media Award 

Presented by the region directors for 

outstanding media coverage. 

WRRC Driver of the Year Award 

Awarded by the WRRC and CASC-OR 

volunteers to the driver that best 

exemplifies the spirit of grassroots racing 

with a desire to grow the sport in the 

region and shows respect for and a 

willingness to assist with the growth of the 

volunteer base. 

Master of Time and Speed Award 

This award is given to the most active race 

competitor that has reached the age of 

70+.

RaceOntario GT Sprint/Formula Ford 

Presented By Toyo Tires 

GT Sprints 

Championship 

The Motul GT Sprints Championship 

presented by Toyo Tires is an open GT series 

comprised of six separate classes - GT1, GT2, GT3, GT4, 

GT5 and GT6 with cars grouped based on the bracket 

that a car/driver combination performs within. With a 

total of twenty one sprint races spread over the seven 

championship weekends, this format ensures maximum 

inclusion, as it accommodates both an extensive variety of sedans and driver 

experience/skill levels at minimal cost. The GT Sprints continues to be one of Ontario’s 

best amateur road racing series, providing a high level of excitement for the drivers as 

well as the fans.

The Ontario Formula Ford 

Championship presented by Toyo Tires 

(OFFC) is an open-wheel single-seat racing 

series. It has two classes that compete for points 

during the season, with cars grouped based on the year in which the chassis was built. 

The Formula Ford, upon which the series is based, is an internationally recognized 

platform for driver development that has been the launch pad for many of today’s 

current IndyLights, IRL, F3 and F1 drivers! The championship is scored based on twelve 

races over six race weekends.

The Paragon Competition GT Challenge 

presented by Toyo Tires completed its third 

season in regional racing this season. It also 

participates in all seven regional championship race 

weekends. The GT Challenge follows the same 

classification structure as the GT Sprints, with the 

exception of GT6, and offers competitors the opportunity to participate in longer 

‘endurance’ style races and to share championship points. With a total of 250+ entries, 

the second largest of all regional race series, this group increased the momentum 

created last year. We continue to look for bigger and better things in the future!

Vintage/Historic and G70+ 

The Vintage Automobile Racing 

Association of Canada (VARAC) was 

formed in 1976 to provide a central club 

in which vintage race enthusiasts could participate. The spirit of VARAC can be 

expressed as a wish to preserve, restore and race historically significant cars in a form 

as close to the original specification as possible. These rare and beautiful reminders of 

our racing heritage are classified in three general groupings: Vintage (cars 

manufactured prior to 1962); Historic (cars manufactured prior to 1973); and Group 70+ 

(cars manufactured between 1973 and 1989). This year’s champions have best fulfilled 

VARAC’s entreaty that its competitors “strive to exercise our cars under competitive 

conditions while we use common sense and good judgment.”

As its name suggests, the RaceOntario Formula 

Libre Championship offers all open-wheel singleseaters 

and lightweight sports racers that do not fall 

within any other specific recognized class a “place to 

race” at each of the seven regional championship race 

weekends. Don’t let the wide variety of cars fool you into 

thinking that these are not fierce competitors. These are some of the fastest, most 

nimble machinery at any regional race weekend, with drivers who are enthusiastic about 

testing the car’s (and sometimes their own) limits!

The Formula 1200 Drivers Association 

(FTDA) Championship is a single-marque 

open-wheel single-seat racing series. The strict 

rule set that provides a reliable mechanical platform and virtually identical performance 

characteristics from car to car promotes driver development. Home to some of the region’s 

youngest competitors, this series also attracts veterans who enhance the driver 

development experience. Racing is so tight, that the cars often form a ‘train’. It is not 

uncommon for the top 3 or 4 cars to finish within the same second! The championship 

participates in six of the seven regional championship race weekends.

huge success for the four CASC-OR Toyo Tires Championships in Autoslalom, Time Attack 

and Race Ontario GT Sprints & GT Challenge that were contested. The top three points 

scorers in the four competition divisions who competed for the entire season using spec 

R888 and R1R Toyo Tires are the winners of the Toyo Tires Championships.

Mobil 1 Time Attack Championship 

presented by 


The 2012 Mobil1 Ontario Time Attack Championship 

Series consisted of ten events, the best seven 

determining the overall champion. The ten 

competitive events were run at Canadian Tire 

presented by 

Motorsports Park Driver Development Track (hosted 

by OMSC), Shannonville Motorsports Park (hosted by 

HADA/MCO), Toronto Motorsports Park (hosted by TAC), 

CTMP International Raceway (hosted by SPDA), and Grand Bend Raceway (hosted by 

TAC). 

The 2012 season saw our first increase in the number of competitors competing in 

our sport. The 105 competitors in 2012 represents a 32.9% increase over 2011 and a 

34.6% increase over 2010. We expect the growth in our sport to continue as we move 

forward to the 2013 season. Our Promotion Committee will continue to be active in 

2013.

AUTOSLALOM 

CHAMPIONSHIP SERIES 

presented by 

2012 was a fantastic year for Autoslalom. 

6 excellent events across the province with a 20% 

increase in series registered and walk-in competitors 

due to a unique sponsorship arrangement with SPDA. 

This year we embraced SCCA rules and classifications 

as the competitors requested, and although many things 

changed, many of the same people rose to the top of the 

leadership board. Street tire classes more than doubled in competitors, reflecting the 

excellent street tires now available from our sponsor, and the ease in "run-what-youbrung" 

drive in and go. Still the best value for the dollar, you can run an event for $25 or 

less. 

More people took advantage of our sponsor’s generous offers in 2012, with many of 

them running presented Mobil1, by and many shod their cars with Toyo Tires. Many of the top ten 

competitors ran Toyos, the competitive advantage is clear. Many also took advantage of 

the products and services from Pure Design Marketing, CSC Racing and Can-Alignment. 

Autoslalom competitors are very loyal to supporters of their series, and want to thank all 

of them for their support.
