LAW LIBRARYby Gayle WebbNational Library Week: April 10-16Does this conjure up images of children’sstory readings, free bookmarks or posterswith various celebrities looking as if theyare actually reading their favorite books?National Library Week has been promotedin public libraries since 1958, when a surveyfound Americans were spending less on booksand more on radio and television – gee, whata surprise!While our books are not exactly somethingyou want to run right out to buy or curl upwith in front of the fireplace, be sure to stopin here during National Library Week and helpus celebrate the contribution of libraries andlibrarians. I think you’ll like using our new,free WestLaw service and looking over otherdatabases, like HeinOnline and LegalTrac forjournals and legal newspapers, LLMC Digital(Law Library Microform Consortium) for governmentdocuments, Kleinrocks TaxExpert,and Shepard’s on LEXIS. One-on-one trainingsessions will be available, and lots of giveawaysfrom legal publishers will go to anyonewho participates (or who even breathes thewords… National Library Week).For fun, a giant, mind-bending legalcrossword puzzle will make its return thisyear, along with other word games to sharpenyour skills. We’ll have the usual desk suppliesand novelties to give away, but this year, ourever-so-ebullient Reference Librarian, BretChristensen, has gone way over the top ingathering donations from major legal publishers,local eateries and even golf courses (!)to give away in daily drawings. All you needto do to participate is to drop off your businesscard; if you are interested in receivinga monthly newsletter about the Law Library,then make sure your email address is on thecard.Hopefully this partial list of fantastic giftsto be given away FREE will encourage you tocome on down, sit a spell, and chew the fatwith our reference staff, or even better, try to stump them with yourbest research/reference question.
