After cross<strong>in</strong>g<strong>in</strong>to Latvia we soon reach the magnificent Rundale Palace,the former summer residence of the Duke of Courland.Follow<strong>in</strong>g a guided tour of the palace we travel through theroll<strong>in</strong>g hills of Southern Latvia to reach Riga late afternoon,check-<strong>in</strong> at Hotel Radisson Blu Latvija**** or similar.DAY 4 (WEDNESDAY): RIGABefore we get acqua<strong>in</strong>ted with Riga we have the possibilityof discover<strong>in</strong>g medieval Latvia. The optional tour for thismorn<strong>in</strong>g takes us to the stunn<strong>in</strong>g scenery of the GaujaNational Park and the town of Sigulda. We listen to themedieval Latvian legend of the Rose of Turaida and seethe ru<strong>in</strong>s of the Episcopal Castle and of the Castle ofthe Knights of the Sword before we return to Riga. The medieval Old Town is a busy place<strong>in</strong> the summer with its many shops, galleries, souvenirmarkets, outdoor cafés and restaurants. The sightsee<strong>in</strong>gtour takes us around the old medieval city walls and <strong>in</strong>tothe Old Town where we see Toompea Castle, Dome Church,Alexander Nevsky Cathedral, medieval Old Town Hall andGreat Guild Hall.
