This assessment of Key RE concepts was used for the first time last year with Year 7 students. The average score for this school was 68.6% (All schools average = 59.1%). Earlier this week all students in Years 4—7 wereinvolved in a Lenten Reconciliation activity including our priests Fr Richard and Fr Darek. At this activity one of our Year 3 Students,Sophia Simpson celebrated her First Reconciliation as she will be overseas on 16 May. Many thanks to Mr Cranley for his work in organisingand co-ordinating this celebration.CONGRATULATIONS—The following students deserve to be congratulated for their recent sporting success—i) Brian Cook (7G) awarded silver (400m) and bronze (200m) at the recent state Little Athletics Carnival.ii) Koby Fullgrabe - a winner of gold (100m) and two silver medals (70m and hurdles) at the above-mentioned carnival held at PerryLakes Stadium.iii) Aidan Smyth (3W) who recently played at Subiaco Oval before 30,000 people in the curtain-raiser for a Western Force game.STAFFING—I wish to advise of the following staff changes for next term -i) Mr Cranley has been appointed Acting Principal, St Joseph’s School, Southern Cross for next term. Mrs De Maio will replace him asAssistant Principal (RE) whilst Mrs Yvonne White will take over his duties in the Library.ii) Mrs Millar will be going on Maternity Leave as from 9 May with Ms Shannen Watts teaching Kindergarten A for the remainder of2007.iii) Ms Watts will re replaced by Mrs Dani Darudana (Indonesian and Mrs Nadine Andrews (Information Technology) for next term.BOARD NEWS—The following matters were tabled for discussion at the March meeting of our School Board -i) Re-carpeting of the Library was approved to take place during the Easter holiday period.ii) Various financial options were considered regarding the ongoing purchase of Interactive Whiteboards.iii) The implication of the proposed Joondalup Single-gender Secondary Schools were outlined.iv) A financial overview of the School and Subsequent Auditors Report were discussed.v) A model of school renewal was presented and an application for inclusion in this project was approved.SPORT—One of the concerns of contemporary Australian society is the level of physical activity being undertaken by our children. Atthis stage every student (P - 7) receives two periods of Phys Ed/Sport each week along with other activities such as swimming, motorskills development and outdoor education. This term alone we will be represented at various swimming carnivals and a rugby leaguecompetition.Next term our Year 6 and 7 students will be competing in the local Non-Government Interschool Winter Sporting Competition in footballboys and girls), hockey, netball, touch football and AFL. I believe students should be given the opportunity to participate in asmany recreational and sporting pursuits as possible and at Currambine Catholic Primary School this ranges from dancing to basketballto t-ball.WEBSITE—our website www.curramcath.wa.edu.au features photos of a number of our students involved in various activities(assemblies, excursions, sporting events, etc). If you do not wish photos of your child/children to appear on our website, then I wouldask that you communicate that point to me in writing. These photos are updated on a regular basis and certainly are of interest to ourstudents when they access our website at school.HEALTH CARE CARD—A change to the way Centrelink issue Health Care Cards and Pensioner Concession Cards has resulted in achange to the eligibility for the automatic Tuition Fee Discount. Single parents who were previously eligible for a Parenting PaymentSingle (PPS) Pensioner Concession Card and families eligible for a Low Income Health Care Card may now be issued with a New Start(NS) card, depending on the age of their dependants. As the means testing for the NS card matches the others, families with a NS cardare eligible for the automatic Tuition Fee Discount.PARKING—Parents are asked to note the following -i) Only vehicles with the appropriate sticker are able to park in the ‘Disabled Car Parking Area’ adjacent to the Kindergarten.ii) Cars must not park on the actual slip road near the ‘Disabled Car Parking Area.’ Cars need to be parked in an actual designated carparks.

iii) The shop-owner across the road from the school requests that vehicles do not park in his driveway, particularly at the conclusion of theschool day.iv) Cars are not permitted to park in the ‘BUSES ONLY’ area near the bottom gate. A number of After School Care providers pick up ourstudents at 2.40pm each day and as such require access to the ‘BUSES ONLY’ area.MUSIC—On Tuesday, 3rd April our 6G class will be visiting the Villa Terenzio Retirement Home. These students along with Mrs Giannasiand Mr Baker will be performing some musical items for the residents. This same group will also be involved in a City of JoondalupCitizenship Ceremony in June. Apparently, his 5-year-old son and his playmates had found adead robin. Feeling that proper burial should be performed, they had secured a small box andcotton batting, then dug a hold and made ready for the disposal of the deceased. The minister’sson was chosen to say the appropriate prayers and with sonorous dignity intoned his version ofwhat he thought his father always said: “Glory be unto the Faaaather, and unto the Sonnnn, andinto the hole he gooooes.”With Every Best WishSteve Gibson, Principal.LENTEN PRACTICES FOR DAILY LIFEAlmsgivingWe can become more like Jesus during Lent by being generous. With your family select a charitable organization andcollect donation money. You may want to select an organization that addresses the injustices you identified earlier aspart of the “Prayer” aspect of Lent. Here are some suggestions for collecting money.1. Put a jar or container on the kitchen table. Contribute a set amount of money, determined by your family, eachday of Lent.2. Give up buying junk food and contribute that money to the jar.3. If you have young children who cannot contribute money, let them contribute by decorating the jar or container.4. Hold a yard sale and contribute the proceeds to the collection.5. Invite friends to join your family in contributing to the charity.PROJECT COMPASSIONOur main charity project this term is to encourage our students to support Project Compassion through prayer, goodworks and by giving alms. It is hoped that parents will help their children to see the importance of supporting the poorand disadvantaged by highlighting Project Compassion, by talking and praying and by allowing them to collect almsusing the Project Compassion box.Children's Mass: Sunday 25 March at 11:30am.
