Professor Jason Hall SpencerJason is a Professor in Marine Biology at PlymouthUniversity, UK and received his PhD in marineecology at Millport Marine Station (Scotland) in 1994.He conducts applied research to provide policymakers with the scientific information needed tobest manage the marine environment, ranging fromdeep-sea benthos, fisheries, aquaculture, marineprotected areas, biogenic reefs and seamounts. Thisyear his group is working on i) coral reefs deep inthe Arctic Ocean, ii) using satellite tracking of fishingvessels to design effective conservation areas andiii) studying underwater volcanoes in temperate andtropical seas to help predict the effects of ocean acidification due to risingatmospheric carbon dioxide levels.- 15 -
