Kinetic Energy Lesson PlanGrade: 2 nd GradeLesson Title: The Balloon Experiment Using Kinetic EnergyObjective1.) The students will learn what basic kinetic energy is and how toapply it.2.) Demonstrate kinetic energy through the balloon experiment3.) Teach the students how to properly calculate the distance ofthe balloon.Materials:YarnStrawTapeBalloonsSAFETY PERCAUTION: Do not allow the kids to blow up theirballoon.Procedures- There will be two chairs set up 20 feet apart and a straw is on thestring. The yarn is attached to both of the chairs.-Then, every group needs to blow up their balloon and DO NOT TIE THEBALLOON-Tape the balloon to the straw and do not let go of the end of theballoon- Let it go and measure how far the balloon travels and record it on theworksheetStandards of LearningP.S. 6.2.1: Investigate the relationship between force and motionN.S 1.2.4: Estimate and measure lengthN.S 1.2.5: Collect measurable empirical evidence in teams and asindividualsN.S. 1.2.6: Make predictions in teams and as individuals

Assessment:1. Worksheets for data collectiona. Length estimatesb. Length measurementsc. Prediction worksheet2. Students will correctly label a drawing of the experiment and identify thefollowing : Stored Energy – Potential Energy Energy of Motion – Kinetic Energy Show direction of motion Show direction of forces3. Compare a series of force/motion sketches showing different distancesand select sequence that shows the best correlation between force, motion and distance.
