RENEW THE VIEW
The renovation of the Sylvan View lobby and dinning hall is almost
complete. The new reception area and furnishings have created a
wonderful atmosphere for relaxation and connecting with others.
Camp is grateful for donations totaling $39,900 that enabled camp to
purchase the new furnishings. Another $4,000 is needed to complete
the project. Bring your group or family and enjoy the beauty camp
has to offer.
Day Camp Offers New
Opportunity for Local Campers
Camp Hebron will open a new ministry in 2010 with an eight-week Day Camp program beginning
the week of June 21 and ending the week of August 9. Bonnie Prohaska, a veteran
Day Camp Leader will oversee the program. “We are pleased to be able to make the many
and varied opportunities at Camp Hebron available and accessible to children from our
home community”, said Lanny Millette, Executive Director. This is a natural extension of our
quality residential camping program.
The Day Camp program will begin at 9:00 a.m. and end at 4:00 p.m. will have opportunities
to experience many of the components of a Camp Hebron camp including swimming,
boating, nature, outdoor skills, crafts, games, singing, age-appropriate Bible study and worship.
The program will be based out of the Creekside Meetinghouse, providing shelter for
stormy days and a home base separate from other camp programs. Camp Hebron believes
that time in nature is beneficial and therapeutic and therefore as much of the program will
occur outdoors as possible. Pre and post program care wil be provided for a minimal fee.
More information is available via the website.
“This is a new, exciting and long overdue venture for Camp Hebron, stated Millette. “We have enjoyed our community involvement
through Released time and are eager to serve our neighbors in a new way through Day Camp.”
Here Comes the “a Team!”
Curt Louder describes establishing the summer
leadership team as his favorite aspect of
the Program Director role. “As I see God work
in the lives of these young people and call
them into leadership, I am excited because I
know that a great summer is near. He has great things planned for these young leaders.” Curt is
pleased to introduce the “2010 A-Team!”
This year three new camp pastors will bring the Gospel to campers and minister to the needs of
the summer staff: They are Ben Kreps, Eric Starner, and Lauren Hurley. Ben Byler and Megan
Klase will return for a second year as Summer Program Directors and will be joined by former
counselors Jill Miller and Allyssa Lucidon. The SPD’s are the backbone of the summer program
and are very close to the Banana King! Emily Yoder will take on the challenge of a new role as
Worship Director, while Amy Schilthius returns from a year-long camp sabbatical to again take
the reigns as the Waterfront Director. Zach Fedor and Loni Waters will don the many hats and
costumes of Recreation Directors and will gladly sing a silly song in honor of those who have
come and gone. Becky Buehner (Mama Beck Beck) returns for an unprecedented third year as
Program Director’s Assistant. Without these amazing people, Camp Hebron 2010 would not
exist. Please lift them up in prayer as we approach another summer of connecting people with
God, nature and each other!
How Can I Help?
“How can I help at Camp?” These are words we love to hear. The property Committee has produced
a list of 23 items that can be done with little or no cost. Here are five tasks from the list.
1. Scrub off algae and stain deck at Sylvan View
3. Paint letters on signs around camp—faded
5. Mulch trails and beds throughout Camp, reinforce erosion controls on trails (cross drains.)
20. Adopt and maintain a flower bed
21. Paint swing and merry-go-round at campground/Clean rust from swing set chains
The complete list is on the website. Call us if you and your group could help with any of these jobs.
Do you remember...
when camp changed your life
or the life of someone you love?
In the noise of camp fun and the quiet of
the woods God speaks and we know that
He is God.
Can you provide a one time gift or become a monthly supporter of Camp Hebron? Will
you donate $15 to $40 each month? Many of camp’s ministry needs would be met if
250 pledged to give $20 a month. 250 people together would provide $60,000 annually.
This summer 1,200 children will experience a week of camp. Help camp make Christ
known in a vibrant and exciting way and help to create testimonies like this one.
“Camp Hebron with its morals and values has shaped who I am today. As a camper I
was able to start my relationship with God through the example of the staff and have a
blast. Whatever your experience is at camp you will definitely see God at work.”
This was an amazing and interesting winter. We saw record snowfalls and much colder temperatures. One
day in early February the paper reported that there was snow on the ground in 49 of the 50 United States.
That does not happen very often. In most of those states, the snow did not just cover the ground but actually
brought life as they knew it to a standstill.
Job reflected on a similar situation in his lament (Job 37:5-7). The Lord sometimes uses a natural phenomena
like snow to get our attention. It is up to us what we do with the respite. We can complain - and many
of us did - or we can take advantage of the break to wonder at His power and thank Him for His provision.
God is so good. The snow was not just a hindrance but also served a powerful purpose. First, it moistens and fertilizes the earth.
It also provided a beautiful white vista. Imperfections were covered and all the earth appeared fresh and new for a time. Scripture
often uses snow cover as an analogy for the impact that Jesus’ grace has on the sin that hampers our being. We are washed white
as snow. We need days like these to remind us of the profound significance of that statement.
Thank you Lord for the variety in our weather and in our lives. In these days we are reminded that we are not all powerful. You are.
The thing we thought so essential waited a few days to get done and we were refreshed.
