EditorialNewsIt seems like 2012 passed by quickly. We capped the year on a positive note as we celebratedthe UAE 41 national holiday and we are all proud of the visionary leadership and achievementsof our country. I want to take this opportunity to wish all <strong>ADDC</strong> employees the very best for theNew Year.At <strong>ADDC</strong>, we are welcoming <strong>2013</strong> with enthusiasm as we continue the execution of our strategicplan to build a performance driven organization, become more efficient and customer focused andcreate a sustainable business that delivers success for all stakeholders.We initiated several initiatives to enable the achievement of the strategic direction. A key initiative is the leakagemanagement strategy to reduce the water losses in the distribution network and enhance the supply efficiency.This leakage strategy is composed of several technology components including the installation of hydraulic model,automated meter read technology, sector meters, and phased automation of the water distribution network which willultimately cover all regions in the Abu Dhabi Emirate. The implementation of this strategy has begun in phases and isexpected to be completed by 2024. Once in place, <strong>ADDC</strong> will achieve a world class capability to efficiently operate andmaintain the water distribution network. Water losses in the network are expected to be halved, network interruptionswill decrease, time to recover from disruptions will be reduced, and service to our customers will improve.Very importantly, water customer demand has grown at an average annual rate of 8% and will continue to growconsiderably into the future. Meeting this demand in the most efficient way is a key priority for the company. Abu Dhabihas a high water and energy consumption rates and we need to optimize the use of our resources.This issue of “Distribution” magazine coincides with the International Water and World Future Energy Summits whichwill take place in January <strong>2013</strong>. The objective of the International Water Summit is to address the urgent issue ofsustainable water practices and provide cutting edge technologies and innovative ideas.I want to thank each of you for being a member of the <strong>ADDC</strong> team and again happy New Year.Eng. Mohammed bin Jarsh<strong>ADDC</strong> Managing Director<strong>ADDC</strong> participates in Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week<strong>ADDC</strong> showcased a number of state-of-the-arts systems and equipments it has recently introduced to enhance its water distribution networkwith the ultimate objective of providing the best of its kind services to its valued customers. That was during the first Abu Dhabi SustainabilityWeek (ADSW), the sixth World Future Energy Summit, the fifth International Renewable Energy Conference and the first International WaterSummit, hosted by Masdar in Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre (ADNEC) from January 15 to 17, <strong>2013</strong>. <strong>ADDC</strong> participation in this worldclassevent was very distinctive and won the acclaim of all decision makers and specialists from across the world, including H.H. Sheikh Hazzabin Zayed Al Nahyan, UAE National Security Adviser and Vice-Chairman of the Abu Dhabi Executive Council.The company’s stand, as a part of ADWEA’s stall, showcased CCTV live insertionsystem to assessing the internal condition of Ductile Iron pipelines withoutinterrupting water supplies to the customers. The new technology enables users toavoid excavations, destructive tapping and the need to shut down the part of thenetwork where the CCTV cameras need to be used.This is in addition to the SCADA, water network hydraulic modelling, waternetwork automation, supply and installation of interface, district andsector meters and other associated strategic projects.ADWEA and its group of companies have also showcaseda number of projects, particularly those prepared bystudents who got ADWEA’s scholarships.His Highness General Sheikh Mohamed bin ZayedAl Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, DeputySupreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forcesand Chairman of the Abu Dhabi ExecutiveCouncil, has earlier inaugurated the eventin the presence of H.H.
