S TANDING FIELD TREATMENT PROTO C O L T R A I N I N G<br />

The In-Service Training Section will present Standing Field<br />

Treatment Protocol Certification training classes at the Frank<br />

Hotchkins Memorial Training Center on the following dates:<br />

Wednesday, December 2, 1998 0730 - 1130 hours<br />

Monday, December 14, 1998 0730 - 1130 hours<br />

Tuesday, December 15, 1998 0730 - 1130 hours<br />

These sessions are open to any licensed paramedic interested in<br />

becoming certified in the use <strong>of</strong> SFTP's. A d d i t i o n a l l y, paramedics<br />

who have previously completed SFTP training may<br />

attend as a refresher.<br />

Attendance at this training class shall be on an <strong>of</strong>f-duty basis<br />

for which members will receive four hours <strong>of</strong> paramedic continuing<br />

education credit. Compensation for <strong>of</strong>f-duty attendance<br />

RESOURCE ENHANCEMENT PLAN<br />

The 1998 Emergency Services Resource Enhancement Plan is<br />

designed to continue the improvement <strong>of</strong> paramedic response<br />

times by expanding the number <strong>of</strong> Paramedic A s s e s s m e n t<br />

Engines and Paramedic Rescue Ambulances. Implementation <strong>of</strong><br />

the Resource Enhancement Plan was announced in a letter<br />

from the <strong>of</strong>fice <strong>of</strong> the Chief Engineer dated July 16, 1998 and<br />

sent to all work locations.<br />

The first phase <strong>of</strong> the Resource Enhancement Plan was implemented<br />

July 1, 1998 with the conversion <strong>of</strong> RA 847 to<br />

Paramedic RA 47. The second phase was implemented in<br />

August. On August 18, 1998, EMT-I RA858 became Paramedic<br />

RA58. On August 26, 1998, Engines 25, 73, 86, 92 and 96 were<br />

converted to Paramedic Assessment Engines. The third phase<br />

was scheduled for December 6th.<br />

VOLUNTEERS FOR 1999 L.A. NISSAN OPEN<br />

Volunteers re needed for the 1999 L.A. Nissan Open Golf<br />

Tournament. The dates for the Open are Tu e s d a y, February 16,<br />

1999 through Sunday February 21, 1999. L.A. <strong>City</strong> Fire<br />

Department has been asked to marshal hole #1 and #2. If you are<br />

The Office <strong>of</strong> Emergency Services is now accepting applications<br />

for the position <strong>of</strong> Coordinator (Fire and Rescue Services).<br />

Applications will be accepted until December 1, 1998.<br />

The third and final phase <strong>of</strong> the Resource Enhancement Plan<br />

has been delayed. The implementation <strong>of</strong> more Firefighter/<br />

Paramedic Bonus positions will take place sometime after<br />

December.<br />

AIR AMBULANCE OPERATIONS TRAINING<br />

All paramedics assigned to Rescues 39, 81, 87, 100 and 104<br />

attended air ambulance operations training during the month<br />

<strong>of</strong> November. The training sessions were held at Air Operations<br />

and lasted 6-1/2 hours.<br />

The training included helicopter safety, inventory and equipment<br />

usage, scene <strong>of</strong> emergency procedures, in flight procedures,<br />

hospital heliport procedures, flight emergency<br />

procedures, hoist procedures, and returning ship to service procedures.
