Projected Age Distribution of Active Squash BC Members (2010-2020)Based on the membership trends seen in the data from 2006 to 2011 projections werecalculated for the 2015-16 and 2020-21 membership years. Based on these projectionsmembership in the 20 and 30 years age groups will decrease from 21.4% to 11.7%.Members 40 years of age and over will increase from 65.2% to 73.4% of the membership.The largest projected increase will be in the 60 and over age group from 7.7% in 2010 to34.2% in 2020. These projections do not take age-related mortality rates into accountwhich would be expected to reduce the proportional rate of increase in the 60 and overgroup.6

Over85% of the membership outside these 2 areas is located in the Southern Interior (Kelowna,Vernon, etc). 4 of the 8 zones have a minimal membership presence in Squash BC, accounting forless than 7.5% of the total membership compared to over 82.5% for the other 4 zones.OUR CHALLENGES• Squash BC membership is not gender balanced.• Only 12.5% of the membership lives outside the Lower Mainland and Vancouver Island.• Over 50% of Squash BC’s funding (Government grants & Gaming funds) comes fromgovernment directly.7
