When you see<strong>th</strong>e big number of <strong>14</strong>,<strong>420</strong> full-service radio stations it’s a big rem<strong>in</strong>der <strong>th</strong>at radio isstill an enormous media presence <strong>in</strong> <strong>th</strong>is country. They may only retransmit <strong>th</strong>e signal of a full-powerstation. I’m pretty sure <strong>th</strong>at a very large percentage of translators arenon-commercial, <strong>th</strong>ought I don’t have <strong>th</strong>e exact number at hand. This is because<strong>th</strong>e rules for non-comm translators are much looser <strong>th</strong>an for commercial ones. Anon-comm translator may be located any distance away from <strong>th</strong>e station itretransmits, whereas a commercial translator must be located wi<strong>th</strong><strong>in</strong> its mo<strong>th</strong>erstation’s expected broadcast range.Educational stations encompass all non-commercial stations <strong>th</strong>at have NCE licenses,<strong>in</strong>clud<strong>in</strong>g college, school, religious, community and public stations.
