Well the 2013 Club Rugby season is upon us and there a few changes to the Premiersquad including a new Coach in Ex All Black Pita Alatini taking over from Paul Feeneywho has moved into a fulltime role at Auckland Rugby.This didn't effect the squad as they produced some quality rugby during the Waka Nathanbeating Maungarua and University before going down in a fiery battle againstGrammar Carlton. The Premiers are a young squad featuring several players straightout of school and players the Championship Under 21 side from last year. Howevertheir are still a few veterans including Oliver Day, Kirk Eveleigh and David Whitcliffe-Davies. We can expect some exciting rugby from these guys this year and fingerscrossed they can lift the Gallaher Shield come the end of the year.The Premier Reserves are looking there usual selves with a strong contingent from lastyears team returning as well as some new youthful faces. During the preseason theside easily saw off University, Grammar Carlton and Eden playing that expansive rugbywe have come to expect from them. The teams goal is simple, go that one step furtherthan last year and take home the Premier Reserve Championship.Our Under 21s have had a slow preseason with many players trialling for the Premiersbut the team has rebuilt and still have several key players from last years Championshipteam. Many of the new players have come straight out of College most notablyMacleans, Botany and Pakuranga. So its great to see the boys staying local and playingtheir rugby at Pakuranga. Again the team has received a huge influx of players from localColleges and there is some real excitement around this team. With two new Coachesin Pythons players Chad Hopa and Kenji Tanako, the team is sure to surprise someteams in the competition.Lastly our Under 85kg teams have completed a testing preseason as all sides did somerebuilding. They Pythons look very much the same but have added some new players.Those Rattlers have gone for youth recruiting several school leavers as well as someUnder 21s players from last years team. And the Cobras well not much is know aboutthis squad but I hear they are pretty much the same and are building for a big seasonin the Under 85kg grade.
