237Appendix 6 / Annexe 6<strong>The</strong> Julian M. Szeicz Award<strong>The</strong> Julian M. Szeicz Award honours the memory and achievement <strong>of</strong> Dr. Julian M.Szeicz (1965-1998).<strong>The</strong> award is in recognition <strong>of</strong> a significant achievement by a <strong>Canadian</strong> geographer atan early career stage and is presented annually by the <strong>Canadian</strong> <strong>Association</strong> <strong>of</strong><strong>Geographers</strong>. <strong>The</strong> purpose <strong>of</strong> the award is to foster the development <strong>of</strong> geographicalstudies in Canada and to provide recognition <strong>of</strong> recently established geographicalpractitioners. <strong>The</strong> award is given for a significant contribution to <strong>Canadian</strong> geography,which may be a synthesis or a regional study, a new concept, a significant researchadvance in a subfield <strong>of</strong> geography, or the development <strong>of</strong> a technique.2003 Allison M. Williams was the first to receive the CAG Julian M. Szeicz Award forher role in developing the concept <strong>of</strong> therapeutic landscapes.2004 No award2005 Michael Sawada - for spearheading the creation <strong>of</strong> the web-based TsunamiDisaster Mapping Portal (DMapP).2006 Philip Kelly - for his contributions to development studies in South-East Asia.2007 No award2008 Isaac Luginaah - for his contribution to health geography through his mixedmethods research on the environmental determinants <strong>of</strong> health.2009 Jason Gilliland, for his contribution to the geography <strong>of</strong> children in the city, whichcombines ideas and methods from urban, health, and well-being geographies.2010 Heather Castleden, for her contribution to the geography <strong>of</strong> environment, healthand indigenous community-based research.Le prix Julian M.
